I did it. Not a huge number of perks but I didn't mind giving a little to the school and its a tax write off. I did the lifetime membership and payed off a little every couple months. If you and the wife both want to they have a household membership that is way cheaper than each of you getting one.Main reason I did was so I could get an alumni membership to the gym. You also get some networking opportunities. But by and large don't expect a ton of perks and do it just to give back a little bit and the enjoyment of saying you did.

^Agreed. The perks are very limited (especially if you live out of state). But I did it to give back and wrote it off on my taxes. Hopefully there will be more benefits in the future, but limited for the time being.

I have a lifetime membership too. I think the only perk I've really used other than the magazine they send is the free food/beer at tailgates (well it used to be free, it may be $5 now). Since anytime I go to sporting events now, I always have my young daughters, going to the alumni thing is 100x easier as we don't do anything but show up and eat and go to the game. The reason I joined in the first place is because supposedly alumni association figures are part of the overall ranking systems for universities. Apparently our alumnni association is very weak compared to other ACC schools in terms of alumni participation. Also I did the lifetime thing because I knew I would continue to contribute and so I just said the hell with it and went ahead and did the annual installment plan (5 payments of $190 spread over 4 years). They really need to push harder in getting the young alumni to join so that we can improve our participation numbers.
