Anyone played this yet? I've been scared to sink my money into it after Naughty Dog half assed Uncharted 3. Also, all the 10/10 fucking mind blown reviews are scaring me away. Same thing happened with Bioshock Infinite and that game was nowhere near a groundbreaking game.

Sounds like this might be the real deal, ugh.

The comparisons to Half-Life 2 have me intrigued. And I haven't been intrigued by a video game for a solid 2 years.

Agreed about Uncharted 3. Technically, I though it was an impressive game and the first half of the game was perfect. No clue what happened in the 2nd half but I beat the game feeling like I just rewatched the last episode of Lost. I don't feel like they rushed this game to market, as they could have thrown it out over the holidays, so I think this one is going to be good.

Well they admitted they put the B-squad on that game. The most intriguing thing I've heard about this game is that is slow paced and methodical almost like Dark Souls. It isn't balls to the wall gun slinging.

Not sure but they are certainly taking advantage of the lull in the stream of games until the next GTA. I almost think there is a semi-conspiracy by the videogame media to hype these games up so the market doesn't flat out crash right now.

If you read the synopsis of the plot it sounds just like The Walking Dead: Telltale game. Generic.

Yeah I remember watching trailers for this game last fall around the time BLOPS 2 was coming out. It had to have been delayed for some reason.

Uncharted plot lines were ripped off and generic, but it was still a great game. (and Uncharted 3 wasn't a bad plot line, they just messed up the shooting controls)

I like it. Combat is a little clunky, but that's to be expected with a controller and 30 fps.

Atmosphere is awesome, looks really good for a console game.

Really wish I could play it on PC.

Just started today. Really good stuff. The engine is basically the same as uncharted but the quality of the storytelling is what makes it really immersive. Plus I can't see run and shoot tactics being effective at all. You hardly have any ammo and enemies are all over you once you make much sound. It all adds up to a very tense experience. I highly recommend.

so is it the same gun play as uncharted? that system is so heavy and repetitive, it really detracted from an otherwise excellent game series

I'm early in but I don't see much gunplay in this case. But, theoretically yes. If the guy picks up a machine gun or shotgun at some point it will be very similar. That being said, if you get in a firefight in this game, you're fucked. The sneak up behind someone and choke them out or throw an object to distract enemies and sneak past them seems to be the most popular strategy so far. But that has kept the game grounded and in line with the story. If you're picking this game up looking for an innovative new gameplay style, you'll probably be disappointed. But I would consider this a unique take on an existing gameplay we've seen before, with a really good story moving it along.

Really good game, although the gunplay is nothing like Uncharted. I'm not really sure what I'd compare it to. If you put a gun to my head, I'd call it this generation's Resident Evil 4. Familiar but innovative twist on a stagnant genre (survival horror). And no, I didn't rip that from some review, I'm that cheesy all on my own

This an indie film easily immersed into a video game.

It was a very good game. Solid performances and extraordinary in every sense.

If you think you can just collect ammo and run-and-gun through the game, this isn't for you. It takes some thought and finesse to really figure out some of the situations.

Relying on guns are seriously discouraged here and will get you killed. Use responsibly.

Honestly, I played on Normal and did use stealth kills, but I was constantly maxed out on ammo/items. It seems like they littered the world with enough pick ups that if you did want to play it as more of a straight up shooter, you could, at least on Normal. I've read that on Hard there is way less stuff littering the game world and stealth is absolutely required.

Just finished it. One of the best games I've ever played and the ending is definitely going to stick in my head for a while. SPOILER but I wouldn't be disappointed if they refrained from a sequel, but I highly doubt they will be able to resist.

Great game. Finished it in 1-2 weeks but only because I got so absorbed in the story and gameplay I'd play for several hours at a time. Finished in a little over 20 hours on normal. Rented it from redbox and it was well worth it. Very tense, nerve-wracking combat. Especially when facing some of the more advanced...zombies? Wasn't sure what they were technically called. I don't really feel like playing through it again for a while though.

I think some of the more tense moments is when you're in whole nest of them surrounding you and they just keep running back and forth like they might have found you... If you're fooled, you'll move quickly and make noise.

That's when a clicker runs up behind you for a post-apocalypse snack...

Also are the load times super long for everyone?

Picked this up yesterday, played about 5-6 hours so far.

Holy shit this is a good game.

Some of the game mechanics took me a little while to get used to, but I never played any of the Uncharted franchise so that's to be expected I guess?

Looking forward to the rest of it.

Beat this game on Saturday. Loved every minute of it

Two thoughts on how good it was

1. I picked up Uncharted 3 used at the same time. Now playing that game feels like looking at fingerpainting after a visit to MOMA.

2. We went to see World War Z on Sunday. Now I never read the book so I can't complain about the story and all of that. But my viewing experience was certainly impacted by the game. It was so good I came out f the movie feeling just meh while my wife and others were talking about how good it was. (I did like the nod to Dr. Freeman in the movie)

This game is a 10/10 I will play it at least twice more (New Game+ and survivor)

I killed two of the surgeons and left the third begging for her life. Gotta leave one to tell the story.

Ellen Page brought up the resemblance in a Q&A on reddit and said it was annoying, since she's actually voicing a character in another video game, Beyond: Two Souls. Of course, that blew up so then she said for everyone to calm down and that she's looking forward to playing the game.

Ashley Johnson does the voiceover. The little girl from Growing Pains. That and a Tabletop episode are the only things I've seen her on.

I'm sure you all knew that though.

***Spoilers***

So last night I was working my way out of Pittsburgh. I'm on the other side of the bridge closing on the Radio Tower.

At the point where I got shot at by the sniper, I hit a wall with the game. For the first time in the story, I felt like I was getting bored with the same wash, rinse, repeat of: We gotta go this way, oh shit there's infected/humans trying to kill us, OK we got by them, ooo look empty buildings to loot, OK now we gotta go this way, etc.

Is this how the entire rest of the game is? Is there any variation on this model? B/c I know that there is a substantial portion of the game left..

Started and finished this over the holidays.
Phenomenal.
Best overall game I've played since Halflife 2 and episodes.
Took about 25 hours on Hard.
Winter was a great final act.
Fuck David.
I left the other two surgeons alive.
I read that some dlc is coming out in early 2014 focusing on Ellie's condition before meeting Joel.
