I got home at around 11:45 (holy crap it's been that long ). One of my cats greeted me at the door, the other was sitting near the oven, staring. He remained motionless for about ten minutes. He got slightly closer to the oven, took a quick glimpse around the counter to make sure there was no other way out, then went back to his post near the oven. This is him at his spot closer to the oven, before going back out of sight next to the sink.Updates are as follows, advice would be helpful:I hope whatever is under there has written its will.12:15am: The creature under the stove has the front third of a mouse, the rest of the body remains unknown12:30am: The cat stalking the mouse has been shut in the living room and is making angry thumping noises. There is a small critter cage outside of the oven with a crushed piece of shredded wheat, a sunflower seed, some more cheese, and a crushed walnut. The mouse was pleased with a small section of walnut left outside of the cage. The mouse's nose has made another appearance. The mouse's nose is really damn cute. The rest of the mouse has not made an appearance.

The mouse is hungry and terrified and adorable
5/21/2013 1:31:47 AM
This happened to me over the winter. They were nesting through the hole that the oven is wired into.Yeah I killed them. Killed them good.EDIT: And for the record--shredded wheat, sunflower seeds, cheese, and walnuts? It's a mouse, not a yuppie. Slather some peanut butter on your horrible-killing-machine/non-violent-mouse-prison and call it a night.[Edited on May 21, 2013 at 1:56 AM. Reason : f]

...mice like peanut butter? I had not thought of that o.oAnd I think it has another hole behind the oven and it only came out because it was hungry... it's nowhere to be seenAlso, I don't think the cat would appreciate having peanut butter spread on him...[Edited on May 21, 2013 at 2:05 AM. Reason : Peanut butter is now in the cage. The mouse is not.]

Jam something under the oven and chase the fucker out and let your killing machine of a cat catch it.
5/21/2013 2:58:06 AM
Your cat appears useless.

Mouse traps and peanut butter along the walls.
5/21/2013 8:42:03 AM
yes. Peanut Butter. I live near a field (thus I get the little bastards all the damn time). Go out and by the old school mouse traps and bait it with a small dab of peanut butter. Works every time. Killed 3 mice in less that 12 hours. They cannot resist it. Good luck.

Peanut butter is most commonly used because it's nearly impossible for the mouse to remove it without springing the trap. They're pretty good at robbing cheese from traps, unless you use Velveeta. Whatever you do, don't use poison. Unless you want a mouse corpse decomposing in your wall.
5/21/2013 9:36:37 AM
Maple syrup also works bc it's hard to eat without climbing on the trap. Also poison will kill your cat.
5/21/2013 9:55:27 AM
Is your cat defective? Or are the mice sneaky enough to not be out anywhere the cat could reach them?mouse traps + peanut butter (as already stated) will kill them with a quickness. I killed 6 mice in less than 2 days that way. Doesn't get much easier.
5/21/2013 10:35:08 AM
I was able to catch the mouse's tail. After it came out half a dozen times it finally crawled into the box then looked up and ran out the corner and I was coming from the side. It was 3am and I was burned out from paper writing, so I gave up. So did the mouse. The mouse was trapped under the oven, there was no way it was getting out with the cat still sitting there. But because the cat is cat sized, he doesn't fit under the oven. The mouse does. As soon as I let him out of the living room (he'd fallen asleep next to the door) he padded back in and sniffed the entire front of oven, trying to see if the mouse was there, and went back to his post. This morning, there was no evidence of mouse, and the cat was sitting under the kitchen table staring at the oven. But I had a car appointment that I was late-ish for, so I didn't bother trying. Poor thing is probably starving I like the live trap that was posted, I may have to get one on my way home. The one near my house closes at 8 though, and I won't be on my way home until later than that... /:

you make simple things complicated
5/21/2013 11:30:45 AM
I do, but it mostly stems from my love of adorable things and the fact that I don't want my cats to catch the mouse
5/21/2013 11:40:38 AM
1. Remove the cat from the room for 48 hours. Sweep the floor to reduce the dander & scent of the cat. A mouse isn't going to go for the bait with obvious certain death waiting for him.2. Use peanut butter in trap of your choice.3. Remove trapped mouse from the house.4. Praise cat for being such a good hunter so you're alerted to the next rodent visitor.
5/21/2013 11:50:12 AM
That furry cute animal is going to give you the plague. Just let the car murder it already.
5/21/2013 12:11:49 PM
Unlike, ^, I do not recommend driving your car through your home to kill a mouse.

you can't just release it in your yardit's going to come back in the same way it did the first time
5/22/2013 3:21:23 PM
It's in a place in the backyard where four different backyards intersect, so a decent amount closer to the other houses, and there's a border of cats between any entrance to our house and where the mouse is. Also, it's basically next to a compost pile, so hopefully it'll stay happy
5/22/2013 3:31:19 PM
the thing is mice follow the same trail as they forageif you observe a mouse nightly you will usually find it along the same path you did each time before. They dont just wander looking for food [Edited on May 22, 2013 at 3:32 PM. Reason : e]
5/22/2013 3:31:54 PM
Jeeze, you're a fucking moron. If you're not going to kill it, you need to drive it several miles away from your home and release it. Not just hope it goes into another home.

You should build a little trebuchet and launch that fucker back out into the field
5/22/2013 6:10:26 PM
My cat kills mice from the field behind our house. One time he left only the tiny little face of a mouse at the back door. Kind of creeped me out a little. My other cat killed 8 mice that tried living under the oven when I was in an apartment. Annoying little fuckers shit everywhere. You're little mouse is kind of cute though. Glad everything worked out, until it comes back again.
