There are yellow electronics recycling bins around campus that you could drop a computer in.

Aren't there a few city of raleigh or wake county places for that?

I've done it before. Just go down to the recycling place and drop them off. I think maybe I had to call ahead and let them know I was coming, but as long as you're a student or staff, they don't mind.
