you know those touching surprise military family reunions that you sometimes see on the internets? usually they follow lengthy deployments. these things tug at my heart strings and I've been known to shed a tear or two.

my scumbag family member, however, has done something so incredibly lame that I'm having a hard time getting over it. after being gone for a week he went to his daughter's school in his uniform to "surprise" her in her classroom... on exactly the day he was supposed to get home. she's too young to really keep track of shit like that I guess. she ran into his arms, teachers cried, people flooded Facebook with pictures, and he did nothing to discourage this emotional reaction to what basically amounts to a contrived lie.

god I fucking hate people.

Came here to post this:

Also, if you try and out him you'll only look like an ass. Just hope that some teabagger takes the facebook photo, covers it in some wildly insane doctored information and shares it to 2,000,000+ people. With any luck he'll be the poster child for some birther movement, Obama hates soldiers campaign.

Our neighbor's kid just returned from his 2nd tour in Afghanistan after 6 months due to an injury. There's no facebook shrine for him, but his parents are inviting all his friends and the entire neighborhood to get wasted at their house on Friday.

you should play dumb and say something in the comments to the effect of welcome back, how long were you deployed!?

whenever service members do these surprise drop-ins, it always seems really selfish to me. the only thing they're doing is getting attention for themselves.

they could just as easily do the exact same thing at home. instead they take this personal moment and share it with the world, whether the others involved want it or not. reminds me of the people who propose over a jumbo-tron.

I feel like I should post here.

Dude, the OP of this thread needs to find serious things to get upset about. Dressing up in uniform to go pick up your kid is comparable to that chick in the 6th grade who deliberately showed her bra strap like it was cool.

There's plenty other things to get worked up over....Like families who keep their kids at a low IQ to receive benefits from the government.

When I got home from deployment and found out my ex fiancee had cheated on me while I was gone, I had an emotional reunion with a bottle of jack.

why do military spouses/girlfriends cheat so much

because a lot of marriages in the military are not based on love, then say that you aren't going to get laid for a year and you have total freedom from your spouse...

had to tell a married soldier he had contracted herpes from his wife after returning home from a deployment (I was a medic, not a weirdo)
