Let say, within the past 10 years, have your views changed at all?

If yes, was there a significant event that changed these views, or no?

I have always been for equal rights. I did change from it being something for God to decide if it's a sin to believing what separates you from God is sin, so it may not be that for people. /Christian jabber

So Republican politicians started to jump the fence on the equal marriage issue. A lot of them claim its because people they know and love have come out. You really begin to reassess your personal philosophy when you notice it affecting the people you care about. I wonder if their stand on gun control would change if crazies began shooting up their kids' schools.

maybe their stance on legalizing crack cocaine would change if they found out their cousin smoked rock all day

Definitely my views have changed. It'd be easy to say my principles are solid and that nothing has changed ever, but I believe through experience and reflection my views have changed and grown.

For one thing I don't feel I need to hide that I'm gay from anyone in the same way I did to some degree when I was a freshman in college as if there was any shame around it rather than just being another fact of my life. I'm way more comfortable casually referencing my husband in conversation than I would have been about dating back then.

I'm also way cooler with the LGBT community being as inclusive as possible. There was a time when I wasn't too fond of more feminine acting guys. No hate, at least none that I was conscious of at a surface level, I just didn't get why guys who are into guys, wouldn't want to act like guys. But it is so easy to internalize anti-LGBT stereotypes, even as a member of the LGBT community, that I believe my views have changed a lot over the past 10+ years. If gay is expanded to LGBT is expanded to lgbtiqqaa is expanded to even more alphabet soup, I say bring it on!

i gave up using "fag"/"faggot" as casually as i decided that regardless of my intention it could still contribute to some negative feelings for a member of a somewhat oppressed class

that small change occurred when i was a senior in high school. i was getting stoned with a friend at a par-3 golf course. my friend hit a bad shot or something and i called him a "faggot." he said that was kind of messed up. i said i was cool with gays and he knew i was cool with gays so it didn't matter. he said he wasn't racist and i knew he wasn't racist so should that make it cool for him to casually drop "nigger." i didn't really have much of a counter and i had a pretty strong hard on for black people so there went "faggot" from my everyday vocabulary.

Been cool to see the broad change though. I think the ABC poll from a few months back said like 81% of those under 30 support marriage equality. Republicans coming out for equality. I think 3 states just passed their versions of freedom to marry laws in the past 2 weeks or so, probably with another one to come within a month. Gay people in the US Congress and Senate. SCOTUS on the verge of killing DOMA next month. It's well on it's way to being a non-issue.

No. My dance teacher from my childhood is gay. He is awesome. I've always admired him and his sexual orientation has never made me bat an eye.

I have made a more conscious effort of not saying "gay" like "that's so gay" within the past 10 years though. I've added "retarded" to that "do not use" list as well.

-Used to think it was wrong and not normal. I was against gay marriage and homosexuality.

-Now, I hope they get legal rights of marriage. This isnt necessarily because ive changed my ideas radically on homosexuality as much as I have realized i believe the government shouldnt interfere with two consenting adults. I support less government interference... in all things.

How do people who think homosexual behavior is an act against nature feel about it in other species?

^ I think he's saying that marriage should only be a church matter, and that there should be no government recognition or legal benefit for any marriage.

Church marriage counts under God, but you still got to get a license for the state to recognize it......and reap all the tax benefits.

I suppose 10 years ago, I said "fag" just like everyone else, but not really directed at the homosex. I never had any hatred towards gays. I just thought that sticking dick to another guy's ass was kind of gross. But I also thought that whatever you do in your bedroom was your business... And as an extension of that, however you want to live your life is your deal. Honestly, 10 years ago, the concept of ~ marriage wasn't even on my radar.

I guess that you can say I've changed a bit. I no longer say "fag" or refer to something as gay, in a negative light. I still think two guys buttfucking is kind of gross, but also accept that some of the things that happen in my bedroom might be considered gross to some. In general, I'm of the opinion "who the hell am I to deny the happiness of two people that love each other?", and thus am in support of the gays getting married.
I don't think there was any significant event that changed my views.... I just became more cognizant of others in my old age

No, although like some of you I stopped using words like "gay" and "faggot" in a pejorative manner about 10 years ago.

I have the benefit, I guess, of having relatively progressive parents in that area. I knew when I was 5 or 6 that some boys like girls and some boys like boys and that either way my parents loved me.

I have always loved the gays

How can I hate a group of people that call me fabulous all the damn time?

For real though, I've always been ok with it. I hope I can be a surrogate for one of my gay frans so they can have a baby too.

No. Not really. I opened up about being bisexual thirteen years ago and that hasn't changed a bit since. I think that love and attraction should transcend the physical body. I think that the only thing that has really changed is that I am even more comfortable with it and completely ok with how God fits into how I view sexuality.

my views have done an 180. I used to be against same sex marriage for various reasons. Now, it's not that I am pro-same sex marriage; I just believe in equal rights and treatment. As long as the government is involved in marriage, I don't think it should have the power to establish which consenting adults wish to legalize their unions (and yes, that reads correctly, consenting adults; and it doesn't rule out more than 2 in a union) without substantial, fact-based sound reasoning that demonstrates such prohibitions are absolutely necessary (which, to date, do not exist and I don't expect any to ever exist).
