Rehearsal is Friday at Lexington Ave Brewery, but I need somewhere for the groomsman/boys to eat at while the girls are at the bridal luncheon. Something simple, good food, good atmosphere, good beer.I'm not as familiar with Asheville bars as I should be.

If you only have one groomsman, wouldn't that be your best man?

what kind of food are you looking for?Mellow Mushroom and Asheville Brewing Company are walkable to downtown. MM has a wide draft selection. Both are pizza restaurants. Wicked Weed is a new brewery with good beer and a cellar tasting room, also downtown, and a diverse restaurant menu.Just a bit out of downtown are Wedge Brewing (they have food trucks for dinner, not sure about lunch), and the ever popular 12 Bones with a small set of local drafts. The latter can have a long wait. All of these places have outdoor seating options.[Edited on April 14, 2013 at 10:16 PM. Reason : ;]

No food trucks at wedge for lunch. If highly recommend Wicked Weed. Great beer, really good food. 100x better than LAB

Jack of the Wood. And Asheville Brewing is about 2 blocks downhill from JOTW. Both places brew their own beer and have great food and atmosphere.

Just gonna respond so the OP isn't misled - everybody on this board is aware that MM is a chain. The Asheville location has a big draft list with a solid local and seasonal representation. Their street corner patio is one of the best downtown. People like their pizza. Of course, whether any of this is important is up to the individual - fortunately there are a number of choices in this thread.

Ahh, I forgot about MM. If the weather holds out, I'll have to do that. Supposed to be chance of rain Friday tho

i vote for Barley's

The Bywater, especially if the weather is nice. It is off Riverside, right on on the French Broad River. They don't serve food, but it's ok because they supply grills and you can bring (and cook) your own. Sometimes there are food trucks too I think since they don't serve food they charge a membership fee so it's like $1 the first time you go. Good cocktails, huge backyard environment right on the river, and good beers. Evenings have live music.Screw mellow mushroom, go to Asheville Pizza and Brewing or Barley's if you want pizzaThe Southern has a good outdoor patio right in the middle of downtown and the food is good too

^ +1Don't do MM. It is good, but there are 19 in NC, including several in the triangle. If you're going to Asheville, take them somewhere uniquely Asheville. That town lives and breathes good food and beer.If you want good pizza and beer you can eat outside then go to Asheville Pizza and Brewing. Ninja Porter is one of my favorite beers and it's awesome being able to sit outside and get drunk on that while getting fat on pizza. Also their outdoor area is completed covered with a 30' roof, it'll be nice out there, even during a downpour.

I could have sworn I just posted in a thread about this not long ago.I was gonna say the LAB, but you're already using that. ABC is OK - just a crappy looking pizza shop, and I thought their beers were bad. Jack of the Wood is probably one of the best places, especially if they have live entertainment.Don't do MellowMushroom. Pack's Tavern is supposedly good, but my one experience there wasn't all that great (was at closing though).that's all I remember

I was more thinking MM because It will be groomsmen and several others, probably 10+ ppl. I'd hate to take them somewhere that either sucks, cant get in, or is hard to find. I'll look up the other places. Normally when I go to a city I like to eat local, and since I'm planning to move to Asheville in the near future, I'm excited to move to such a foodie/beer city.

The atmosphere at Barley's is pretty terrible unless you're in the upstairs pool room at 12 am and sloshed. The patio at ABC overlooks a bus hub and some office buildings. Bywater is cool but I assume you don't want to be cooking your own food. I'm not here to advocate MM as my favorite place in Asheville - I like all these places - but it seems most suited to this situation. The patio is great, on a street corner in a popular pedestrian area, and they have drafts from a large number of NC/WNC breweries. I would call to be sure the patio is complete - they were doing some renovations a little while back. The beer menu at The Southern is sad I do like the suggestion of ABC in a rain event though if you still want to be outside. That patio is huge and they sometimes have a couple lawn games set out.[Edited on April 16, 2013 at 7:00 PM. Reason : a]

have you been inside? old, cheapass tables/booths and the feel of an old mexican restaurant. Compared to the other bars around, pretty crappy.[Edited on April 17, 2013 at 8:51 AM. Reason : talking about the one on coxe ave. probably should have said that to start with][Edited on April 17, 2013 at 8:51 AM. Reason : beer was still sour though]
