I think that the moral is obviously to pursue the path of reasonable problem solving as opposed to escalating the violence. I think that in prison, Norton's character learns the benefit of working with others and that violent paths only benefit the people at the top.His little brother's death is the result of his violence. The whole movie is about "violence is not the answer" type cliches.
