What sort of odd indulgences did you have as a child? And do you still crave them from time to time? I loved the following:

- Spam
- Vienna Sausages
- Chilly Willy Popsicles
- Pork Rinds With Hot Sauce
- Fatback

Nom. Minus the popsicles now.

I liked to mix jello, eggs, and cheese at the salad bar at Milton's.

I'm pretty sure it would still be delicious.

Grilled cheeses sandwiches made with cooper sharp and italian bread. Not as much fun when you have to make it, clean up, and worry if its "diet appropriate"

Tomatoes from Dad's garden, cut up with salt and pepper (weird indulgence but i loved his tomatoes!) Now, store tomatoes aren't the same but hopefully the ones I'll be growing this summer will be delicious.

Kraft cheese slices in those plastic wraps. No.

^^ Suddenly, I want to find a K&W Cafeteria. They don't have those in Florida, as far as I know.

^ Where did you grow up? Loved those fresh garden tomatoes. We'd eat tomato sandwiches. White bread + mayo + tomato + salt + pepper = heaven

Add tomato sandwiches to my list.

Eastern PA

Rhubarb straight from the garden dipped in sugar. Grandma would get so mad at me for taking the whole sugar jar outside with me.

Not so much any more.

saltine crackers spread with tub margarine (what the fuck, parents?)
Kraft singles on their own

really an actual complaint about making a fucking grilled cheese sandwich? it's like the most basic thing in the world to cook.

^^ oh, I still eat fatback and pork rinds with hot sauce... they're just sometimes foods now, rather than everyday foods.

And I heard about spam sushi, which I'd have to try if I could ever find it.

^ A lot of places overcomplicate the grilled cheese sandwich. Sadness. We have a grilled cheese sandwich restaurant in Orlando. Prob has the best profit margin out of all the area restaurants here.

This is exactly true. For me:

-Fried liver pudding
-Vienna sausages
-Corned beef hash (I love that mess but... the calories)
-Fried bologna
-Fried mullet roe
-et cetera

EDIT: And lots of cheese. No wonder I was so fat.

chocolate gravy (I still look forward to my mom making this)
Flintstones orange push-ups ... do they still make these?

I had no odd treats. Little Debbie snacks and Kellogs Pop-Tarts compromised 90% of my adolescent diet. I should have diabetes.

About once a year I get the urge to buy a can of Chef Boyardee Spaghetti. That disgusting looking orange sauce takes me back to YMCA day camp every time.

Glop: equal parts sour cream and cottage cheese topped with salt, pepper, and thin sliced red onion. Wrap that in a few slices of good deli ham and add a slice of rye bread open-face style.

Canned bbq sandwich on toasted bread with mayo and Texas Pete.

Creamed tuna over toasted bread

Mixing sausage, eggs, grits into a multicolored porridge.

Drinking the leftover juice from cooked peas.

Collards and crunchy, buttered cornbread

ETA: tomato sandwiches! I still eat these in the summer with thick bread, salted tomatoes, and huge rings of red onion.

Pear halves with a dollop of mayo and shredded cheddar. If we were lucky there was a maraschino cherry on top.

Also, tomato, mayo, and fatback on a biscuit.

A friend's mom used to mix peanut butter and cream cheese, spread it between graham crackers, and freeze them. Weird but tasty.

I definitely ate my share of vienna sausages, deviled ham, canned chili, and the like.

I still get the urge once every month or two to buy the Underwood brand "chunky" chicken, which is about the least chunky chicken spread you can possibly imagine. Mix it with some mayo like you would with tuna. Makes a damn good sandwich.

Ah, pudding pops. Those were good! Can't believe I missed the screwball either, I almost always got those when the ice cream truck came around. Those or a bomb pop (I wonder if those are still called that?)

Also, whenever I got an ice cream sundae, I'd let the ice cream start to melt, and then take my spoon and mix together the soft ice cream, the whip cream, and whatever toppings were there. Made kind of an ice cream soup. Made sure I got all the flavors in every spoonful.
