so i finally got my drone up in the air..

went to a friends shop to play around....need to mount the camera underneath to get the props out of view

pretty decent considering i used no vibration isolation and the camera is just mounted straight to the frame

yes..it has built in GPS with rth(return to home) function. I can flip a switch on the transmitter and have it return to its launch location and land (it will also do this if it loses signal with the transmitter or if the batteries get too low)

(the white disk towards the left of the battery in this pic is the GPS receiver)

I read this as "first down footage," while fully expecting a picture of the OP's down's child.

awesome

I want to build a lightweight poly AR and mount it to one of these

camera for nav, camera for sighting, servos for minor aiming and trigger pull

It'd have to be a pretty big quadrotor but how badass would that be to screw around with in east raleigh out at the farm

Sweet! If you have an extra channel left on that remote, you should use it to tilt the GoPro, if you don't have that functionality already. If you have the Hero3, you could use the mobile app for live monitoring over WiFi.

Don't need a class, you can teach yourself that with ece 200, at most.

Also take a look at udacity and coursera.

igor- i havent invested in a pan/tilt setup yet but they are pretty cheap and easy to setup. i would have to invest in a new transmitter and rx though.. i am using a hero 3..but the video over wifi has a 4 second delay so it isnt usable for fpv. but people do hack the usb to composite cables which give you a live analog video signal perfect for FPV...but the camera doesnt respond to light changes quickly and its easier to use a dedicated fpv camera for live feed.

you can make it navigate autonomously...the Wookong-M waypoint controller is tied into google maps and you can set full flight map including altitude, radius of turns..even the direction in which the multi rotor is pointing (so you could like send it to a point of interest and have it do a 360 degree pan around the object based on the radius you set and have it record the video (and send back a live feed of poorer quality)

when i posted this i used the word "drone" but my primary purpose for building this is for videography and entertainment...i dont fly over private propery and dont take video without peoples consent.

heres a pic showing the cameras..top is for FPV live fee..bottom is for recording.

Also built a set of circular polarized antennas (cloverleaf and skew planar) at 1.3ghz and run them now..they reject multipath interference so they are amazing for a/v transmission.
this stuff isnt complicated..the internet can teach you everything

I was like, dude, when is it going to get past the shop where you built the drone and actually show footage the drone took.

...oh

you're using zip ties and plastic pieces, you can do better than that, your frame looks like shit...and I know you did it to keep the weight down, but c'mon man, i'm almost certain that you can find someone to build a custom carbon fiber body or you can probably do it yourself

Hey glassssssss be careful... those DJI props are known to break in flight (and rather often at that)

Yeah..I read that they aren't reliable. I don't run the dji props..I can't remember the brand I'm using in the pics.
I run a 4s lipo so it is better to use the 8 inch blades for me. I also found that if you are using it for recording footage..Use the smaller blades no matter what because its susceptible to winds with the large blades ( noticeable compared to smaller blades)
