I spent all weekend there. Downtown is full of hippies and small shops for everything.
There's a coffee shop in a bus called Double D's. Britain and boobs, what more do you need?
But on Saturday night, at around 7pm, there was a loud bang, and all of the street lights (except the low orange ones) went out, and the building next to us had the emergency lights turn on. No sirens, no fix, nothing else... does anyone know what happened?
Also, I want to hear about your experiences in Asheville.

Moogfest, or something else? We passed by the Moog Museum but it was closed on the weekends so we didn't get to go in

Is the Jazz/Martini bar Belugas still there? I enjoyed going there, even though I"m not into jazz or martinis all that much. I just liked getting sauced in street clothes while watching old folks in formal wear dance to jazz.

^ Not sure, I'll check it out next time I go, which will hopefully be in a couple of weeks. We were hoping to go swing dancing Saturday night at the Grove Park Inn, there was a big Jazz and Swing festival elsewhere, but alas, we ended up doing other things.

I really enjoy visiting there, especially in the fall. Fun little walkable downtown with some good restaurants. Thirsty Monk is one of my favorite bars in town. My sister and her husband moved from there a little over a year ago and so I don't make it up as much now (we had an excuse and a place to crash previously). I need to be better about getting back there though since we only live 1.5 hours away.

jack of the wood is great.

thirsty monk's cellar belgian bar is awesome.

The LAB has good beer and food, though overpriced.

I thought ABC's beers were bad.

Pack's Tavern was quite disappointing (foodwise)

The fishing was not as good as I expected; French broad was a little large for me to try to fish

But the town is amazing and the people where hippies but unlike college liberals they aren't a bunch of judge mental smart asses they are just laid back and cool

But the best thing about Asheville are the signs at the park that say "if you're a convicted sex offender you cannot be on the property"

Lol never saw anything like that, imagine seein a guy look at that sign and then turn around

you could also make the case that Boone is where hippies are born and Asheville is where hippies go to die

My gf got her undergrad there as well (she's from Hayesville). We try to make it there every now and then, either to visit friends, go to a Bulldogs game, etc.

thats what I took away from it as well.

I was only there for one night back around october. We went camping in Black Mountain, and went to Asheville just to hang out.

I'm getting married there on 4/20/13. Rehersal dinner at LAB, wedding at Yesterday's spaces.

My fiance and I hope to move to one of the towns near there soon (Waynesville hopefully). We love the food and beer of Asheville, but we dont like the hippes. I'm also big into fishing and hunting, and the mountains around Asheville offer a great setting to do both.

I've actually never been to Asheville, just places nearby. Thinking of taking a weekend. Is it the kind of place where you could go for a long weekend, or do regular weekends there, and feel adequate? Or does it need a longer trip? Always looking for cool weekend trips.

Luella's hands down some of the best BBQ/smoked meat I've ever had in my life.

Tons of microbreweries to check out.

Pretty cool little town overall.

I think it's cool small big city in the mountains. Kinda like a couple city blocks of a big city like Portland or somewhere.

Not really, he said everyone.

There's also a lot of smelly people all over the world that aren't poor. Asheville may have a slightly higher percentage than others.
