I just want to know what kind of Ranch dressing I can buy at the grocery that tastes like the ranch you get with wings in 90% of restaurantsHidden Valley, etc is garbage and most ranch dressing I've gotten from grocery stores is too thick and/or tangy and tries to be too fancy or some shitDo most restaurants make their own, or is the best ranch just some cheap stuff from Sysco?
12/14/2012 1:22:28 AM
I got some ranch from my main branch bro. Would you like a guzzle?
12/14/2012 1:40:25 AM
sheeshi just wanna know what i can buy from the salad dressing aisle in harris teeter that tastes like the stuff you get in little plastic cups with your wings
12/14/2012 1:53:28 AM
Put whole milk into a little plastic cup and let it sit out for a couple days; there's your ranch dressing
12/14/2012 1:54:18 AM
and then add 10 year old moldy cheese and you have bleu cheese dressing, amirite
12/14/2012 1:56:10 AM
Legit question. This shit right here is what I buy. They have non-Lite as well, but no pic on the HT site.http://shop.mywebgrocer.com/Shop.aspx?shopurl=http://shop.mywebgrocer.com/ProductDetail.aspx&strid=BA7D6205&sid=74106305&sid_guid=56325fe0-bc67-4e2e-b08c-cca1ef02ce6d&pid=752921

Ken's Ranch Salad Dressing/thread
12/14/2012 5:18:00 AM
Maybe the hidden valley packets you mix with sour cream? I think the taste and texture are completely different from the bottled stuff.
12/14/2012 6:43:51 AM
Sysco
12/14/2012 6:49:07 AM
Fat fucks, ITT.
12/14/2012 6:50:12 AM
Hidden Valley created ranch, have some fucking respect.I don't understand why people like watery ranch instead of thicker ones. I'd like it to stick on the wing when I dip it instead of running off

I'm not a ranch fiend or anything but Gypsy's shiny diner has some bangin ranch
12/14/2012 8:18:04 AM
I think it's kraft or hidden valley ranch mix, in a packet, that tastes the best.
12/14/2012 8:29:22 AM
12/14/2012 8:44:00 AM
I make my own. It's really easy, cheap, and tastes better than any ranch I have had at a restaurant imo.1 Hidden Valley Ranch DIP packet (Make sure you get the dip, not the dressing)1 cup sour cream1 cup mayonaiseMilk or creamCombine everything except the milk in a mixing bowl. Add milk to reach desired consistency (some people like it runny, some like it thick)
12/14/2012 9:00:33 AM
Ken's is clearly the answer you are looking for.
12/14/2012 9:14:28 AM
If you want it made already. Ken's steakhouse But the buttermilk ranch packet made with mayo and buttermilk is amazing as well
12/14/2012 9:21:19 AM
I'm super picky about ranch, and Marzetti is by far the best store-bought ranch. It is in the refrigerated section (for me.. near the cottage cheese, yogurt, veggie dips, etc).Marzetti's Caesar dressing is also really good.
12/14/2012 9:26:41 AM
Marzetti makes really good blue cheese dressing too.
12/14/2012 10:05:14 AM
i haven't had anything but homemade vinaigrette in agesequal parts balsamic and olive oil, add some ginger, garlic, mustard, and lemon juice and you're good to goi do make my own caesar dressing, though...but with anchovies, as it's "real" caesar instead of that shit they sell in bottles[Edited on December 14, 2012 at 10:08 AM. Reason : i don't care that no one else cares]
12/14/2012 10:07:26 AM
that and some bbq bread...fucking amazing. It's made by the folks that owns hooters...and it's amazing.[Edited on December 14, 2012 at 10:34 AM. Reason : g]
12/14/2012 10:33:24 AM
what's the shelf/fridge life of self made ranch?
12/14/2012 10:34:45 AM
^ not sure. Usually when I make a batch it's gone in 2 weeks or so, so I know it's good for at least that long. I would assume it would be the same as the shelf life of sour cream, since mayo lasts pretty much forever. Assuming you keep it refrigerated, of course.
12/14/2012 10:38:12 AM
yeah that's what i figured.. the sour cream or the milk being the big factor. Two weeks is plenty. i'll give it a try.
12/14/2012 10:42:17 AM
If you are anything like us, you put ranch on everything. So you should have no problem eating it all before it expires.
12/14/2012 10:44:51 AM
I've used heavy cream one time...it's fucking delicious.
12/14/2012 11:11:33 AM
i never thought about using buttermilk, even though that would be the obvious choice. i will have to try that next time
12/14/2012 11:15:50 AM
^ if you don't have any buttermilk around when you want to try it, adding 1tbsp of lemon juice to 1 cup (minus 1tbsp) of whole milk will give you a VERY similar tastei've heard you can use white vinegar, too, but i've only ever used lemon juice
12/14/2012 11:25:38 AM
I've used white vinegar when I made biscuits so it works for buttermilk.
12/14/2012 11:28:48 AM
Solomon's/Saints and Scholars has the best ranch I've ever tasted. They make it themselveshttp://www.solomons-restaurant.com/[Edited on December 14, 2012 at 12:18 PM. Reason : V - and yeah it's a bit runnier, which I like. But the main feature is flavor. So damn good.]
12/14/2012 12:12:47 PM
Ken's Buttermilk Ranch is used at several restaurants I go to.I also enjoy the runnier ranch dressings you find at eating establishments. I have not been able to find a source for that type of ranch. Perhaps its homemade or made with a seasoning packet.
12/14/2012 12:15:11 PM
^ It's most likely just thinned out with milk/cream (or maybe even water) to get more servings out of a batch. I find that steak houses are notorious for this.[Edited on December 14, 2012 at 12:18 PM. Reason : a]
12/14/2012 12:17:38 PM
That's what I was thinking, but for some reason that stuff tastes really good!
12/14/2012 12:24:50 PM
the next time you're at Outback, ask for a fuckin big cup of that shit. I'm talking like one of those 8 oz containers. That shit should last you a week.
12/14/2012 12:25:49 PM
oddly enough, I love watery ranch too. it is one of my favorite parts about going to steakhouses.
12/14/2012 12:27:33 PM
some ranch afficionados (sp?) in this thread
12/14/2012 12:29:15 PM
The cheap Food Dog brand Ranch (not the buttermilk kind they sell) is actually my preference. I'd take it over Hidden Valley any day...and even started to prefer over Ken's, as it's not as thick.Still not as runny as house made restaurant style though
12/14/2012 12:32:24 PM
this thread makes me want to fix some ranch dip with veggies tonightthanks y'all
12/14/2012 12:34:53 PM
Let me derail this thing and pose this pregunta...Why does the Ken's Honey Mustard in individual servings from Cookout taste 1000x better than the Ken's Honey Mustard from the bottle?
12/14/2012 12:37:50 PM
because you are putting on something from cookout
12/14/2012 12:39:54 PM
good answer
12/14/2012 12:42:59 PM
watery ranch ftw
12/14/2012 12:48:56 PM
I REALLY like BWW's.
12/14/2012 12:56:54 PM
Bada ranch FTW
12/14/2012 1:27:50 PM
When I worked at a steakhouse we made our own. I don't remember exactly what we did, but we made it in five gallon buckets, and the "ranch" we use was Hidden Valley packets. We also made our own thousand island and it was 75% mayonnaise.
12/14/2012 4:16:14 PM
I like Ken's stuff in general, really good mayo.
12/14/2012 10:13:37 PM
well these are not the same as the packet mix onesi think i'll just buy some from the restaurant]
6/20/2016 11:03:17 PM
