So, there was this story that's been prevalent on http://www.thewashingtonpost.com recently about a young man that was murdered.http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/crime/police-searching-for-at-least-three-more-suspects-in-woodley-park-metro-attack/2012/12/03/a0b2e38e-3d96-11e2-bca3-aadc9b7e29c5_story.htmlBasically, a young man named Olijawon Griffin was hanging out in Adams Morgan a couple of weeks ago. He was looking for some weed, and was lured into an alley by a group of guys who robbed him at gunpoint of his Helly Hanson jacket, shoes, phone, etc... (I think they felt sorry for him and gave him his shoes back). Anyway, Griffin caught up to the guys that robbed him later at the Adams Morgan / Woodley Park Metro, got into a fight, and ended up getting stabbed to death.Very sad and senseless. Apparently, he had just started working and put his first paycheck into that jacket. So, what the fuck does any of this have to do with this thread? Well, Griffin was robbed because of the clothes he was wearing, basically. He was wearing what was in style. My question to you is.... what are the current fads in your area? What might you get robbed for if you were flashing it around?-As of a couple of years ago, Northface jackets were the in thing-Now, it's Helly Hanson Jackets-Smartphones-Watches and other Jewelry-Beats by Dre headphones-When I was a kid, Starter jackets were in-Sneakers-Gold chains-

People kill for Helly Hansen??? What is this, 1998? Was he wearing goggles, too?
12/3/2012 9:32:51 PM
Yeah... I mean, it seems insane to me to kill anyone over a jacket. But I guess to some, a $400 jacket is worth it. Those jackasses were caught on the metro video cameras though, and are being tried as adults.

Somebody recently stole five dollars from me, and I was a wee bit homicidal about it on the inside. Senseless violence just makes so much sense.

I had a jacket that was popular that my step sister gave me as a hand me down. Stolen during gym class the first day I wore it. Can't remember the style. It would have been early 90's and it was some sort of surfer style. It was a deep teal iridescent pull over windbreaker type jacket with the brand name written down the sleeve in fluorescent pink I think.

I have a sweet helly hansen raincoat/bibs combo. I'm pretty sure street thugs would not want to steal them, though.
