This has been getting good reviews. I pick one horror movie to go see every Halloween, I think this will be the one this year:

This looks pretty cool; although, I'm worried it's going to be the sort of horror that relies on its special effects rather than its atmosphere/tension. I was pumped to go see it this week only to realize it's not out yet. D'oh!

kinda reminds me of the ring from the preview

Great horror/psychological thriller. It is reminiscent of "The Others" and "The Ring" in that its somewhat original and creates tense moments without a bunch of cgi bullshit monsters. There are definitely a few plot holes but if you don't think to hard about it, it is enjoyable. One of the better thrillers I have seen in a while.

Saw this last night, while eventually predictable, probably one of the better horror flicks to come out in the last decade or so. If you're a horror fan you'll want to spend the money to see this in the theater.

*********************Spoiler*********************They make a joke that the pagan deity is not something out of a Norwegian black metal band......and then they make the demon look exactly like something out of a Norwegian black metal band. The demon should have looked cooler.

Just saw this. Not bad at all, and I usually can't take the horror genre seriously.

As with Insidious, I think people will either really like it or really hate it.I liked Insidious and I liked this one too, although not really for the main scare factor.Do I stil need to put *spoiler* even though it's been out awhile?Eh fuckit I will anyway.**SPOILERS and discussion stuff**So I was mainly creeped out by the home movies themselves, and not particularly Mr Boogie. It tends to get lame the more you expose whatever is scaring the hell out of everyone. But uh, yeah, well done on the creepy music and murder imagery of the home movies. I mean really, there's no other audio so there's no bad acting of someone screwing it up with some over dramatic scream, it's all silent and you add your own feelings in while watching it (except for lawnmower, fucking hell yikes lol).Completely fucked with my assumptions and expectations for a goodish chunk of the movie. . Kept fucking with me during dialogue with those long shots exposing hallways or the dark corners of the office, bedrooms, kitchen, etc. I found myself searching for shit that wasn't there rather than listening to what was being said. I dunno, leftover product of Insidious I guess when I saw that little boy standing in the corner of the kitchen as the camera goes past. Also those tight facial close-up back and forths when he's talking to Deputy So-and-So, was expecting something to appear by their head when the camera goes back to them.Same for when he was having video chat with the professor - that was way too dark an office and open space for something NOT to happen behind him, but no it didn't. That's ok though. Not saying I'm disappointed, not at all, who wants to go see something they can recite and predict every line and scene that would suck. In the previews you have no idea that was an actual person/child coming out of that box and during the movie I kept expecting the scene to end with someone waking up but no no, it was happening and the kid kept screaming and I was just "wtf! stahp!!!" My own personal opinions and gripes because the directors will read this message board:Yeah plot holes. There were. If someone else wants to discuss more then be my guest, ha. Really? Shiny, glowy drug chemical in the coffee? Ok then.Gripes. A couple of the kids "appearing" when he moves out of frame and keep the scene with the daughter in bed, but that whole span of kids running around exposed them way too much and made it lame, IMO. Less is more. Same with Mr. Boogie and his face - just got cheesier the more you saw of it. The whole computer screen movement was dumb. I wonder if it would have been best to leave him out almost entirely because he sends almost an afterthought anyway. I thought they'd go somewhere there for a little bit when they mentioned him eating children, but, maybe I'm just a sick individual bc none of those children looked gnawed upon to me, just decomposed lol. I liked it and I give it an A+ *overall* because I WAS sitting there with my hands sweating and could feel my pulse beating in my temples for awhile. I set myself up to see a horror movie in the best way if possible. I try to wait if I can stand it so I don't have to hear any bullshit around or behind me "omg gurl nuh uh!" Usually sit up front so it encompasses my entire view and if someone is texting I dont have to see their stupid face light up, I can be totally engrossed. Plus I likes to put my feet up on the rail If it sucks, it'll suck no matter what but surroundings can really alter your experience. Cool story Ashley. Words.*END WORDS AND SPOILERS STUFF*

I laughed out loud multiple times during this movie, not at the stupid "comic-relief" character but at very cheesy and lame attempts at horror. They had a few good ideas but ruined them with awful sound editing, really poor character motivation/decision-making, and really long shots of the ghosts/boogieman. The opening shot of the movie was the best part. The other snuff/murder films were interesting, but not worth the wait or the repetition.I probably would have walked out halfway through if I hadn't been there with a group.
