Bobby just curious how often do you go mobile with the laptop?
8/11/2012 11:01:36 PM
^ not terribly often, once a week if i don't have too many calls i'll work at least a half day from a coffee shop just for a change of scenery. Also, there were a few weeks in the last couple of months where i couldn't really take vacation, but said vacation was already planned, so i worked from our condo/hotel, etc.
8/12/2012 5:41:07 PM
Not the best quality, also my desk is messy. Anyway, for gaming, I use the center screen in CrossFireX. When working (as pictured) I use the right screen for my work laptop and use Synergy to share my mouse and keyboard. I have the same monitor mount at work, which actually looks better since the 24" isn't so old and doesn't stick out as much (use a USB -> DVI thing for my third monitor there.)

Can't live without them now. essh, I don't see how you guys do multi-monitor setups with different sized monitors
8/13/2012 12:22:25 PM
yeah, it does kinda suck if you move app windows between monitors. I try to keep certain apps on the laptop screen and apps that i'm actively working on in the main screen and not go back and forth. This will all be resolved when I get my 3x24" setup.Anyone work with their monitors in portrait mode? I'm intrigued by the possibility of more vertical real estate. I hate that so few monitors are available at anything but 1900x1080. I had 1900x1200 in 2001, why have we regressed? 2560 x 1600 is still at the fringes and, as a result, cost prohibitive.[Edited on August 13, 2012 at 12:59 PM. Reason : .]

What's the catch? 27" 2560 by 1440 IPS monitor for $235?=
8/13/2012 5:51:36 PM
^The only catch is they are coming from Korea. There are a LOT of options too. Catleap is another "brand" for these, and there are a half dozen others. You can get these panels with gloss fronts, matte fronts, glass fronts, LED backlit (full array or edge lit), traditional backlights, all sorts of different stands, different inputs (most are dual link dvi only though). You can find these in the US at Microcenter for $399, I forget the brand name. Just make sure to get a squaretrade warranty with it (for ones bought off ebay) and you will be fine.

what's the need for 2 tablets?
8/15/2012 7:00:12 PM
Mainly just for testing purposes. I don't use the Android tablet much, except to verify that content is displaying on it properly or to troubleshoot if somebody calls in and says their Android whatever is not working right with the website/lecture capture, etc.

what utilities for multi-monitor systems do you guys use? any opensource/free good ones out there?
8/23/2012 3:56:44 PM
multi-mon toolbar is the only one i use
8/23/2012 5:50:13 PM
^^Windows 8. They really did a LOT of work on multi-mon support for Win8. You can have windows only appear on the taskbar of the screen they're on, finally you can do (n) window tiling, and the start menu can be launched from any monitor and the choice is sticky.Oh and you can finally set backgrounds per monitor. On the downside, you can't pin to anything but the primary monitor taskbar, and window tiling apparently only works on the main monitor, and the system tray always only shows up on the main monitor.

What headphone amp is that?
10/10/2012 10:20:14 AM
It's a Focusrite Solo audio I/O. Takes in XLR mic or line input and provides D/A conversion and interface to Mac/PC/iOS and out to headphone and line. Could not get the onboard audio to work with Mountain Lion, so this was a nice solution. Plus it alows me to use professional mics for voiceovers and get a better headphone sound even in windows (i could always hear a bit of interference from hard drives before when I used the front headphone jack on the XPS tower). I also have a small Fiio E5 headphone amp that I use to drive the Sures when plugged into my cameras or wife's laptop.
