Honestly TOEFL scores don't mean a whole lot. I've worked with plenty of people that had good TOEFL scores that were terrible at day-to-day English. Just like there's plenty of people out there that score well on the SAT but are dumb as a brick when it comes to common sense stuff.

You suggest every foreigners to have the same English level as you huh? I can say my English is pretty good among them. Many guys from Africa and Asia have heavy accents. Even some from Europe.

OK, since you're "not troll and someone forbid you," I'll bite...

Accents are one thing, but basic syntax formation and written communication are entirely different. In today's business environment, for most entry and mid level jobs with the exception of outside sales, written communication skills are paramount.

There's a give and take in most situations. If your language skills are lacking, then you'll have to excel in other areas in order to differentiate yourself from the rest of the huge pool of applicants any given employer has to choose from. If you're only as good or just slightly better than someone who has much better communication skills than you, then it's a pretty simple choice for an employer, wouldn't you agree?

Another bit of advice, take whatever you can get, even if you feel it's "beneath you." It's a cliche, but it's typically true that it's much easier to find a job when you have a job. You can take experiences from any employment opportunity and speak to them in an interview.

Plus, employers want to see someone who is hard working with a strong work ethic. I'd much rather hire someone that has been working part or full time at a job below their qualifications than Cousin Eddie who is holding out for a management position since he and Catherine sent all that money to the TV preacher. (that last line is a joke, a movie reference).

It is becoming more and more clear that you cant get a job because you are thick headed and stupid. This is an online forum and you are trying to bring up accents and verbal communication. Nobody gives a damn about your test scores. You cant type well formed sentences in English, how do you expect to succeed in a culture that speaks and writes in English?

^^I hung around in school for another fucking 4 yrs is because I didn't know if I should stay in academic area. After four years, I find out I don't have passion to become a faculty and want to switch to a very different field--sports industry.
Becoming a faculty is many Chinese students' goal.

i work for a large company in RTP and we've hired like crazy, especially foreign-born folks here locally so there has to be more to the story as to the reason why you have been job hunting for 4 years and you can't get hired.

but still i can understand you didn't prepare for maybe 1 or 2 interviews but you said you've been on about 20. i would think this is a lesson learned - if you really wanted the job and wanted to make money you would wise up and prepare for the interview.

If you dont understand what that means, you are once again failing to comprehend basic English in the written form. I cant imagine how horrible you are at verbal communication. I have had some professors that spoke pretty poor English, but there written communication was excellent and their spoken English was better than your written English.

This was your response to my honest attempt to give you constructive feedback? First of all you throw an F-bomb my way, which is quite discourteous to someone who tried to help you. Secondly you don't offer any relevant response or question to anything I said, further demonstrating your lack of reading comprehension and/or writing skills.

Also, what exactly are you looking for with this thread? You mention your plight, yet you don't "make it clear" what it is that you're looking for. Are you just venting? Looking for help, advice, or networking?

If you're trying to do any of those things, you're failing pretty miserably. If you're trying to troll... well then you've got an A-Prrus in my book!
