Should we produce them at all? We are providing medications to people with contagious diseases so that they live longer, enabling them to further pass along the disease. Is this really the best long-term strategy to diminish aids?

Let's get rid of antibiotics while we're at it

BAN ALL VACCINES!

It isn't up to us what people spend their money on. It shouldn't be up to us to stop people either buying medication they need or negotiating with an insurer to buy it. Now, we should also not have legislatures passing laws requiring that insurers cover experimental treatments.

I would like to politely point out that the HIV/AIDS medications you decry also dramatically reduce the chance of infection, most notably for HIV-infected pregnant mothers passing their disease to their children.

It's becoming difficult to tell which posts in this thread are sarcastic and which are not.

Well it appears it saves us more money and reduces transmission to identify and treat:http://www.statesman.com/news/nation/early-hiv-treatment-saves-money-health-experts-say-2423577.htmlSo yeah, since treatment reduces infection rates across couples and groups and goes hand-in-hand with testing (less of a disinsensitive to get tested if it isn't a short painful death sentence one way or the other) I'd say it's kind of a no-brainer.And it may be curable in a while anyways (and making this cure cost effective should yield dividends in treating numerous other diseases as well.)http://www.latimes.com/health/boostershots/la-heb-hiv-cure-aids-meeting-20120727,0,960052.story[Edited on July 28, 2012 at 7:03 AM. Actually the logical argument is to stop treating all chronic diseases as they are a clear economic burden. A further logical step would be banning the reproduction of humans who have defective chromosomes that can lead to genetic deviation.

I hear they don't generally treat HIV/AIDS in AfricaHow is it going over there? That strategy working out for them?

Actually, if you think about it, we'll be better off if we just kill every person who has AIDS the moment we find out. After all, the criminal and the hedonistic who we sacrifice in order to make a pure world won't matter once they're gone. Nor will the smaller number of innocent we have to sacrifice. They will haunt our memories, but that's all. We can move on.We can commend their sacrifice but nonetheless send them to the afterlife, while we polish the pure and more perfect world they leave behind. Eventually, the slow, obese, and dumb can be sacrificed as well, but the people of Earth aren't ready for that yet. Only after they've appointed Kira as their God and accepted our ideology then we can slowly transition to speak of such things.

Who is "we"? Should someone physically prevent people from producing HIV/AIDS medications?[Edited on August 6, 2012 at 1:38 PM. Reason : ]

no, goddamit, the guy with the Death Note writes down the names of the people with AIDS in the notebook. The idea is that a society that kills the unwanted would be too violent and morally bankrupt to evolve into a utopia. That's why the world needs Kira to do it for them. It's a catch 22 without that, thus the need for the messiah of death. It's a depraved, but sound, philosophic argument.

oh oh also didja know the gays are behind all thisyeah, it's a gay disease so fuck 'emalso blacks in africa

you need to be at least at least a little selective with the criteria you use to pick people to kill, because lord knows, we all have something that could be justification to say we're not worth keeping around. That's why minority groups are good, like those infected with AIDS. You can off them more easily while not upsetting support of the majority. Just ask any tyrant, you gotta pick your battles.

It's extremely odd what constitutes a "troll" to people today. I guess many never got the idea that you can discuss something without advocating it. Death Note was a small phenomenon in Japan, so I guess we could call the entire island-nation of Japan a troll....I guess some people wouldn't bother contesting that.
