All the other threads were dead.think I may have a hernia. Symptoms started Wednesday after going to the gym on Tuesday. Few minutes ago, I noticed the lower right side of my abdomen, near my groin is slightly swollen. Hurts pretty bad near the groin area. Pain radiating down right inner thigh to the knee, and up into the ab area. Been feeling nauseas and having frequent urination all day.Guess I'll head to the doctor on Monday.

that sucks dude, sounds like you are hitting all of the big symptoms there unfortunately. I have occasionally pulled my groin or lower abdomen, or pinched a nut, and had that weird sensation in my balls for a few days, but it goes away. I never had a visible bulge or felt a bulge.best of luck man, keep us posted. what were you doing at the gym when it happened.

I did legs on saturday, so press, squats, some other things.Tuesday i did chest and tri...the cable machine was broken and some huge dude was there before me, so instead of changing out, i tried to do like the 57lb on the tricep pull down, so maybe that? Can't imagine it happening during bench or flies etc.Anyway, I've done a little research and am starting to get worried about post surgery complications...like long term pain and or sex stuff. Hopefully I get good news on Monday.

^^I've had two hernia operations, both of which when I was very young (which I think is pretty rare). I want to say 5 and 6 years old, and one on each side. I don't remember much from it as far as pain either before or after. I have no complications as far as pain or sex related issues, but I don't really want to max out on a dead lift either. My dad has also had one and had great results and the surgery recovery time was very fast for him, and I assume for me. good luck man, hope you don't need it but it's not really that big of a deal if you do.

Update:Good news: No hernia, thank goodnessBad news: Type 2 groin pull. So that sucks. Ice and advil, could take up to 6 weeks to heal seeing as you use your groin to walk. Thanks for everyone's concern. Off to ice down my taint.

Once you get past thirty, stop maxing out with weights. It serves no purpose and will only get you hurt. You're not a kid anymore.

I had 3 hernias last summer. I had bilateral inguinal laproscopic surgery. Have mesh all the way across my pelvic cavity.I have 4 tiny scars on my belly the length of a pencil eraser. 2 were for the tools to manipulate things, 1 was for the camera, 1 was for the gas they used to blow up my cavity. Same day surgery. General anesthesia so I didn't feel or remember anything about it. They did a breathing tube and a catheter so I was sore in both places from those. Recovery is really quick. It hurts to bend and use abdominal muscles for about a week. Once you are standing you are fine, and once you are sitting you are fine, but it is going in between that sucks because you put strain on those muscles. Obviously you don't want to lift anything heavy for a while because you want to give everything time to heal properly.

Scheduled for surgery next week. 6 weeks of no play
7/28/2015 5:09:51 PM
They did both sides this morning

Recovery hasn't been too bad.

So is over exertion the main risk factor here, or is there something I'm missing?
5/19/2016 2:29:25 AM
I had one of these when i was a bb

So now I think I may have one. Karma is a bitch! Can't actually find it, though. Maybe it is an occult hernia, which might sound cool, but also seems hard to locate and would likely require a lot of diagnostic testing ($Texas).I've had the same sensation for about a month now. Doesn't seem to get any notably better or worse. Lower right abdomen doesn't feel right. It shifts around from feeling like it's in my intestines to my lower back to my sack. Seems worst when sitting for a long period of time. Not debilitating, but annoying and constantly reminding you with little twinges. It's not so much pain as the feeling that something isn't quite right. The feeling goes away completely when lying down. No other major symptoms.Help me, Dr. TDub! I've learned all I can from Weird Al. Anything else it might be?

PSA: If you get a hernia, get it taken care of, even if it doesn't hurt and doesn't bother you.I have had an umbilical hernia for about a year; I have no idea how I got it. I noticed it, went to the doctor, was told to just keep an eye on it and report to the ER if I ever had pain.Well, fast forward to Feb. 6, right after work. I felt a really unsettling pain around the hernia, and it escalated until I went to the ER at about 6 pm. I was in emergency surgery by 1 am, with a strangulated hernia that had choked off three inches of my small intestine, causing necrosis. It had to be removed and resectioned, and could have ruptured if I hadn't gotten into surgery when I did. Apparently, it's one of the top 10 emergency surgeries you don't want to have. By not having elective surgery earlier, I increased my chances of mortality by 20 times. I am lucky, and I have plenty of sick leave; so far I'm on day 9 out of work. And when I'm healed, I get to have more surgery; they have to go in and rebuild my abdominal wall and add a mesh patch. It's been a crazy experience, and I've definitely learned not to put off any kind of health issue, painful or not.

I too had an umbilical hernia. Had it fixed in '09.Fast forward to 2017. In the hospital for a week for a bowel obstruction. The culprit? That f'n patch they used to fix my hernia. Scar tissue adhered to my small intestine, kinking it up.

Oh no! That sounds terrible! I'm sorry you had to deal with that. Sounds like an adhesion? That's one of my biggest fears with all this. [Edited on February 21, 2018 at 4:41 AM. Reason : sss]
2/21/2018 4:40:49 AM
It was an adhesion. And according to the surgeons, it could happen again at any time.Keep active, keep moving - sedentary lifestyles tend to bring adhesions on. I mean that makes sense right? Move around a lot and it keeps things from sticking.
2/22/2018 9:47:20 AM
Great advice; thanks! I hope that's the last of that situation you have to deal with.
2/22/2018 1:35:54 PM
I can has join the hernia club?I had an inguinal hernia 8 years back. torture then, and torture now. had mesh repair, after 16 hours of being awake it's like I never had the surgery in terms of discomfort.
3/25/2018 8:24:16 PM
^x8, Coz I know its been over a year since you made that post, but I have had those exact same symptoms for months. Did you ever find out what was causing your issues?
3/25/2018 11:34:06 PM
^^ That's terrible. I'm sorry you're dealing with that pain.
3/28/2018 11:15:43 AM
^^For me, that condition finally eased off after a couple of months. I never pursued a formal medical diagnosis, although if it had progressed in severity, I would have. I'm still not entirely sure what it was / is. It may have just been some sort of internal strain that took a while to heal, as I never found a bulge or anything I could palpate. Or it could be the occult-type hernia that I referenced. In any case, it seems like it would have to be relatively small.See PM for additional details.
