With the draft being tomorrow, and free agency only a week away, THESE IS THE TIMES for an offseason thread.Draft Picks (Round/Overall):1(8)2(38)2(47)3(69)4(99)4(115)4(120)5(129)6(159)7(189)Who will we take at 8? Will we keep the pick?FA Needs/wants/#hockeyporn:JR has said he has 2 main goals this offseason: 1. Someone to play with Staal that's actually a first line talent, not a 3rd liner getting 18 minutes. Perhaps RICK MOTHERFUCKING NASH. He said the FA costs might be too high, so a trade for someone like Nash, Bobby Ryan, or Jordan Staal might be in the works.2. a GRITTY 4th line player.

well thank god you put the asterisks in the thread title, I'm not sure how I would have seen this thread otherwise
6/21/2012 1:27:34 PM
yeah, I'm the only one to do that. Eat shit

I think we've just helped the marketing team find their motto for the 12-13 season. Someone let em know.
6/21/2012 2:04:02 PM
Not a lot of trades happening yet the day before the draft. Let's hope we see a big name on the Canes roster after tomorrow.(Interesting sidenote: I know everyone's been talking about Nash, Ryan, Staal, Parise... but what about Mike Ribiero? Apparently Dallas has gotten a few calls about him.)
6/21/2012 3:53:12 PM
Jordan Staal turned down a 10 year deal from the Pens. Fire up the trade talk even more!
6/21/2012 5:06:35 PM
Chip appears to be in discussions with a mystery entity named Howsam.
6/21/2012 5:09:12 PM
PIMP HAND!PIMP HAND!
6/21/2012 6:36:02 PM
If we got Mike Ribeiro, I'd burn down the arena so he could never play here.
6/21/2012 7:30:28 PM
Jordan Staal is getting married this weekend. None other than Tripp Tracy will be in attendance.
6/21/2012 9:25:19 PM
and that will provide a seasons worth of name drops for Tripper
6/21/2012 9:27:49 PM
Also. Plz to not get arrested during bachelor party
6/21/2012 9:31:31 PM
you forgot Marc:
6/21/2012 9:38:26 PM
Just disgusting that we are picking #8 after the horrible season we had. Hope the top 5 are all busts, what a huge setback for a small payroll team.
6/21/2012 9:49:59 PM
not a setback at all, but I wouldn't expect you to know thatstay in your lane
6/21/2012 10:03:42 PM
face really wanted us to get Alexandre Daigle.
6/21/2012 10:05:37 PM
No its a setback. After the top few picks its a crapshoot in hockey. Guy we get may never even reach the team.
6/21/2012 10:14:32 PM
With the exception of perhaps a single can't-miss player every year, every pick in a hockey draft is a crapshoot.I guess we could trade for Rick DiPietro and Patrik Stefan, though.

if we trade Ruutu, Murphy, and #8 overall for Jordan Staal, I might have to break something tasteful.
6/22/2012 10:26:30 AM
Ruutu's NTC kicks in on July 1, I think.
6/22/2012 12:33:52 PM
Get your popcorn ready
6/22/2012 6:07:10 PM
frick.. just waiting for something.. anything... come on JR!
6/22/2012 7:47:15 PM
Unless we trade the pick, we're gonna have a good forward on the board to take. One of Forsberg, Teräväinen or Grigorenko will have to be available.
6/22/2012 7:51:32 PM
oh my goooddddd Forsberg
6/22/2012 8:01:30 PM
Thank god for this being on. I'm pulling an all-nighter for a flight. Once we pick I can occupy myself watching highlights of them for a bit before showering. My problem is that the online stream is behind twitter. Not sure if I want to keep it a surprise for that extra minute or not.

Staal to Carolina[Edited on June 22, 2012 at 8:07 PM. Reason : .]
6/22/2012 8:07:44 PM
Man, I really like Sutter, and I think JR did too, but I'm happy overall. We have quite a few prospects and Staal will likely re-sign after the year. Or who knows, with the way JR has been acting recently, maybe they'll sign him for longer mid-season.
6/22/2012 8:11:18 PM
After the year? Mid-season?Jordan Staal will sign an extension within the month.
6/22/2012 8:12:00 PM
Holy sh*t.. Jordan Staal with the Hurricanes.Sucks giving up Brandon Sutter. I mean, bad. But wow Jordan Staal on the same team as Eric Staal?Oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy.[Edited on June 22, 2012 at 8:14 PM. Reason : ]
6/22/2012 8:14:15 PM
oh dear lord jesus
6/22/2012 8:17:10 PM
Absolutely hate giving up Sutter. Couldn't it have been almost anybody else? I know Staal is better, but I saw him as marginally better. Not a potential Forsberg/Demoulin/Sutter better.
6/22/2012 8:19:42 PM
Now that I'm over the initial shock and giddiness... I am starting to wonder why we gave up so much. At the same time, I do believe that J. Staal is a better player than B. Sutter.. just wondering why we had to throw in the #8 pick as well.
6/22/2012 8:21:02 PM
The thing that I think Luke DeCock brought up was that picking up Jordan now kind of leaves us in limbo in terms of getting that top 3 forward that JR was pining for. We don't have the money to re-sign Jordan right away and pick up another big name. On the other hand, Jordan realistically isn't a clear top line guy. A solid pickup obviously, but unless there's some magic money tree that pimp hand found, I worry that we won't any other big moves.
6/22/2012 8:24:37 PM
canes get the best player in the trade, good enough for me guess i do have to get a new jersey now Sutter is gone still think we can get a top wing as well. We were gonna have to commit serious cash to Sutter down the line anyhow
6/22/2012 8:25:39 PM
Our other moves will be Ray Whitney and/or Dustin Penner.
6/22/2012 8:26:00 PM
Still missing one key forward to make this all work. Yeah, we get a player to work with Staal, but we still need more talent at Forward.Ray Whitney, come on down! Wouldn't surprise me to get him for two years, shore up the 2nd/3rd line and add some PP skills.
6/22/2012 8:28:01 PM
I'd be fine with Ray being back.

Really gotta hope someone can step up as a 3rd line Center. I don't know if Welsh is that guy though. If not, I can see Jussi centering the 3rd line.[Edited on June 22, 2012 at 8:39 PM. Reason : .]

6/22/2012 8:38:43 PM
If it makes you feel better, I can see Joslin on the 4th line
6/22/2012 8:50:28 PM
The salary floor is currently $54.3 million, though that will probably change if the players and owners can actually agree to a new CBA. Under that current floor, though, we have 11 forwards, 6 defensemen and 2 goalies signed and are $7.5 million under the floor. We still need to spend.
6/22/2012 8:52:00 PM
100% ok with this tradeBEAP BEAP
