Does anyone still play roller hockey? Is that the only sport that's had a full league one decade and not even been an organized sport the next?

Roller hockey is a worthless, backwards sport with a completely ridiculous rule set.

In an (what is surely a futile) attempt to dispel the misconceptions in this thread, I enjoy roller. It's a much different game, but the increased cardio element combined with the more offensive skill set provide a game that is a nice complement to the 2 nights/week that I play ice.For the record, I've played ice for over 25 years (even with people that I like in this thread - brownie27 and vinylbandit)[Edited on May 16, 2012 at 11:47 PM. Simonn - Let me back pedal on this one. As statehockey8 hockey said, there are definitely some advantages to roller. He is right, the cardio and skill involved can be better than ice. I know that I can "dangle" much better playing inline than I could on the ice.The point I was trying to make with my jab was that a lot of kids play roller hockey because they are either scared of playing in a checking sport, or their parents don't want them playing in a checking sport. Which confirms, sort of, what you are saying. Inline is also much more affordable because you can put a roller rink ANYWHERE, and you don't have to pay for ice time. Ice time is mad expensive. I remember at State when I played club a few years, I think our team dues were $600 a year or maybe even $600 a semester.

I am standing by my comments. As a goalie, I try my best to avoid both offensive skills and cardio. Also, you can't slide for shit on sport court and cherry pickers are annoying.

We played in the street growing up, Wayne's World-style. It was definitely something we only did because it was cool at the time. By the time I was in high school, I don't think anyone even owned roller blades. Everyone moved on to soccer full-time or got into skateboarding (or more accurately, weed).
