That there should have been assault, so call the police and have the perpetrators arrested. We don't need to ban the lifestyle choices of others because some of them turned out to be criminals.

It's not just the child rape, it's the institutional cover-up and non-involvement of secular judgment.This isn't religion bashing, it's organizations-that-shield-rapists-from-punishment bashing. Maybe it's a coincidence that they're a religious organization. [Edited on April 24, 2012 at 4:50 PM. Reason : .]

Covering up a crime is a crime. Arrest everyone involved and put them in prison. But it sounded like to me the solicitor was calling for seizure of the organization and had to be told doing that was beyond the power of the government in a free society.

There's evidence that Ratzinger on down were involved in the cover-up. I'm not sure how arresting the pope and like every cardinal and bishop is functionally much different than "seizure of the organization".

Criminals can be replaced with non-criminals, thus minimizing the harm inflicted upon the vast majority of people which are non-criminals who have their lives wrapped up in the organization. This is worse than guilt by association, it is punishment by association. Look at it another way. If teenager from a family of four is caught selling drugs on the street, should the government seize all of the family's property or just put the teenager in prison?
