I used to take my stuff to Passage (they pay 40% of the item's sale price to you), but I gave them a couple of brand new pairs of shoes to sell and they never showed up on my sales reports, so I'm looking for some other options. I would like to consign both clothes and household goods, if that matters.

You can't really sell clothes on eBay. Shoes, maybe, but not really clothes. People want to be able to see it in person and try it on.

Which is why consignment stores do so nicely. It's also a friendlier environment to the consumer - they're more apt to buy, as it seems natural to buy clothes in that setting (as opposed to eBay/Craigslist).

Um, if you have some name brand stuff, you could try Plato's - you at least don't have to wait for the items to sell (I believe you get cash in hand).

There's My Secret Closet (right near the outlet mall in Mebane): http://www.mysecretcloset.com/consigning.htm They give 40% for items less than $100. Also can bring in household goods it looks like. It always looks like a lot of people are in the store in Mebane.

Don't waste your time at Plato's Closet.

Try Revolver (Glenwood Ave) and Adore (2 locations - Creedmoor Rd and Cary Parkway).

You'll find it easier to sell a guitar than 20 random pieces of clothing...and you'll probably get more money from the single transaction than the 20 involving clothing.

I used to sell my clothes on eBay before my sister grew up so now I just pass everything down to her. If you have clothes all the same size (or just about), try selling it as a lot on ebay and that way you don't really have to list out every item and size but just a general statement about the sizes or what's included in the lot. Just line everything up together and take one picture of all the clothes. I used to get quite a few bids on my "clothing lots".

Obviously I can't comment on Plato's prices on women's apparel, but I'd add one caveat: while Plato's Closet may pay less for clothes, they also have a lower bar for what male apparel they will buy. A place like Revolver has a better selection, but they probably aren't going to buy your shirt from Target. Plato's will at least give you a couple bucks for it.

I've been going Revolver --> Plato's --> Goodwill when culling the shit out of my wardrobe. Haven't sold anything at Uptown Cheapskate although I'm guessing they have a similar model to Plato's. Unfortunately, the selection of guy's clothing is pretty limited in most shops.
