4/8/2012 3:22:16 AM
i'd rather keep the multifuel engine
4/8/2012 8:39:23 AM
the multifuel makes no power and generally sucks balls. i also wouldn't do a cummins either. http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=12402
4/8/2012 1:24:12 PM
Yeah, but you can burn gasoline, diesel, motor oil, Automatic transmission fluid...hell prob even kerosene/jet fuel.
4/8/2012 3:14:03 PM
Whats the MPG on something like that?5?
4/8/2012 6:31:20 PM
Lol, miles per gallon. I think fpg would be better.
4/8/2012 6:43:15 PM
8-15 for the diesel. i dunno about the multi fuel.
4/8/2012 7:27:11 PM
haha... With the multifuel, probably around 8-10mpg combined. Maybe 10 city, closer to 7 or 8 hwy. (unladen). Top speed is about 55mph I'm curious if swapping a Cummins would help improve mileage (30%-50%) while adding power.[Edited on April 8, 2012 at 7:29 PM. Reason : .]

m35 a3 has the best engine but no longer has a manual
4/8/2012 7:34:22 PM
When talking about a truck this big, mileage is generally not a consideration. The M35 sometimes can be found with a multi-fuel cummins engine instead of the continental (unless you can find a "whistler turbo" continental). The M35A3 had the 3116 Cat, but they are much more expensive. The 3116 is an amazing motor, however does not seem to be a ton more powerful than the M35A2 (I have ridden in both). You can find a normal 6x6 M35A2 at a local yard in VA for around $2500 in running/driving shape.

easternsurplus is the place for a deuce.i will have one in the near future.
4/8/2012 9:21:52 PM
I'm plannin on picking one up in the the next year or so too. Starting my research as of now...

4/8/2012 10:08:18 PM
She's not gonna hit 85 with only 126hp Tho either.
4/8/2012 10:12:33 PM
^With the right gears, it should. Would it take a long time? Yes.
4/8/2012 10:57:52 PM
Tail wind wouldn't hurt...
4/8/2012 11:36:19 PM
i can tell you this... my 200hp wrangler didn't like going 85 and it has probably 1/4 the drag and weight of this thing.
4/9/2012 8:02:45 AM
^Probably 1/8th of the torque as well. 126hp aint spinning any tires, but these engines likely have well over 500lbft of torque. Still would take a looooooonnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggg time to get past 55 with the right gears though.

Could possibly be the coolest tow vehcile for the boat It would only cost me $300 in fuel to get it to and from lake gaston
4/9/2012 3:31:16 PM
lol... if you had a winch and a tilt bed you could put a boat in the back and tow another. and seriously... might as well get the 5 ton... they have better engine options anyway. http://www.easternsurplus.net/images/Services/M813/M813a.JPG
4/9/2012 3:44:56 PM
5 Ton definitely requires CDL, hence the 2.5 ton is a popular option.[Edited on April 9, 2012 at 4:20 PM. Reason : .]
4/9/2012 4:19:59 PM
The truck in the first post is probably marked up between $2000 and $4000 over what was paid for it as surplus, and the guy who bobbed it probably sold the extra axle for at least $1500. Also I don't see what year it was overhauled? Usually that is a selling point as well.[Edited on April 10, 2012 at 9:54 AM. Reason : As mentioned earlier, you want a whistler.]

I am imagining the back of that filled with a college student's apartment furniture. I loled

Last night while I was riding on my motorcycle, I spotted a Duece parked on a side street in front of a house off Glenwood Ave. Oh god I can't stop shopping for them...
4/14/2012 10:43:55 PM
i would love to have a deuce. I just have no good place to keep it and no real use for it. it's just a matter of wanting one.

my 5 ton has an ass of torque, you can start unloaded in any gear in low range and the first two in high. It gets about 5mpg. Its less like a truck and more like a tractor with a bench seat, damn near scary to get wound up because of how spartan it is, especially with the top off. The rear tandems are like a slinky when going over obstacles. If you get a five ton you automatically get power steering and air over hydraulic brakes. It is a 50s style truck no matter how you look at it but it sure is fun to drive. Just wear ear plugs, that bitch is loud.
4/19/2012 11:18:15 PM
You have one of these cars in 5 ton? Can you post pics?

^just sent that link to my father and am fairly certain he will purchase it, lol.want to buy his 850i just to make sure he doesnt use the "well i have too many cars" excuse?
4/20/2012 1:00:48 PM
lol... DAMN YOU!!! seriously though i'd rather have a mog then a deuce but that's just me. I've wanted portal axles on a jeep since forever. Stock driveline angled 6" lift & the pumpkin is out of the way YAYYAYA! (someone made a mog/9" hybrid at one point)
4/20/2012 1:03:58 PM
^^^^^ the 5-ton is just a different, larger military truck. There are 7-tons, too. The deuce is popular becuase it's plentiful, dirt cheap, and a little less unwieldy than the larger ones.^ everybody would rather have a 'Mog, and the price difference reflects that!
4/20/2012 4:54:55 PM
I would definitely leave the multifuel in there, given the apocalypse and gas prices and other talking points and whatnot
