So I now live in BFE, VA and the only grocery store nearby is Food Dog. Needless to say i have no access to organic fruits/veggies but i suppose i can live with that (there are farmers markets around here). I was wondering if there are good online suppliers for organic foodstuffs . The closest "good" grocery store is Wegman's and its almost an hour away...so i don't typically go there. Enlighten me tdub

Just stick w/ farmers and ranchers if that's all you have. Slow food > Organic

That's just what I call Food Lion They seem to have the market cornered on bum-fuck areas...

maybe see if you can find one of those community supported agriculture programs around there.

Amazon and the Food Lion special order service should help you get most of what you need.http://www.foodlion.com/InStore/SpecialOrders

I forgot to mention that I get a lot of my stuff from supplement stores online because they have the best prices. I just ordered oil and xylitol from http://www.iherb.com/. Free shipping and $10 off your first order of $40 with the code HUV859

I use papaspuds.com. Surely they have something like that up in VA.

I have the exact same problem. I live about 170 miles south of Houston, Texas and it's virtually impossible to find any wholesome foods that haven't been frozen down here. It's terrible. I never thought about getting supplements online...but I need to research this more. Thanks for this thread. I'll be monitoring it. I hate Food Lion. Down here they have "H.E.B" which is the ONLY grocery store. No competition. It's nuts. And NOTHING is fresh.

^Most HEBs suck in San Antonio except the ones in rich neighborhoods. I really miss Harris Teeter...

^ wtf? Do you live on the west side or something? HEB's are awesome, the ones I always went to were better that HT and way cheaper. I lived in a nice area but nothing special really. I wish we had one in Dallas, we have central market which is fucking incredible though.
3/31/2012 3:18:24 PM
^yeah HEB is so awesome because there is no real competition in South Texas.

You don't need competition when the one grocery store chain you have has the lowest prices and high quality food. I would gladly trade every grocery store near me (which is 4 different chains) for HEB. I don't know which ones you go to but apparently you live in a pretty shitty part of town considering even the shitty ones where I lived were better than most harris teeters.

^you're very passionate about HEB. I don't live in a shitty part of town, I go to the Alon Market HEB in SA (which is a very nice HEB).Harris Teeter has a much better selection of fruits, vegetables and organic food. HEB is like Bi Lo, and Central Market (only 1 in San Antonio) is like Harris Teeter.

^^^^ Supplement places sell a lot of other things too. Cooking oils, teas, personal care products, baking mixes, etc. When I was an undergrad without a car I'd order all sorts of stuff from them that I couldn't get at the regular grocery store.
