99% chance we will be getting relocated there next month. Anyone live there or from there?

Other than a few decent steakhouses, there's not a damn thing there. Good luck.

Thanks- job is supposed to be a year and half- so at least it won't be forever. Rentals are stupid expensive though for such a small town!

^Yep. I've been through Amarillo a couple of times. Not only is there really nothing there, but there's nothing anywhere NEAR there either.4 1/2 hours to Albuquerque, 4 1/2 hours to Oklahoma City, 6 hours to Dallas.

It is a great place if you enjoy storm chasing.

General Rule for Texas: If you are sentenced to time in TX, your first choice is Austin. There is no second choice. As it happens, Amarillo is especially horrible, even by Texas standards. Think Farmville, NC, but much drier and without the high culture.

Stayed overnight there once on a cross country trip. Woke up and walked outside, the air smelled like manure. We drove to a gas station an exit or two away, still smelled like manure. I can only that think this is because it is, in fact, a shitty place to live.
