i order heartworm pills made up for my dogs' specific weights through the vet's online pharmacy & it's wayyyyyyyy cheaper than the prepackaged ones. idk if your vet does the same thing, but it's worth looking into. i get 12 pills (so 6 months' worth for us) for $27 shipped.

i didn't post a link bc i'm in rocky mount & doubt anybody goes to my same vet, but here you go. the vet placed the order & i don't know what the dosage is or anything. it just shows up in the mail a couple times a year. https://coatsvet.myvetplus.comheartworm medicines require a prescription btw[Edited on March 14, 2012 at 10:30 PM. Ivermectin is sold OTC for horses, pigs, and cattle. I had to start buying the pig stuff when I had a dog and cat because the stupid cat hated the heartgard and the liquid was easier to shove down him than the pills.

yeah, but dog/cat-specific versions require a rx.

you can order them from overseas.cheaper then 1800 pet meds but watch your bank for international fees.you dont need a prescription
