Start with the obvious.Dan Snyder(Redskins)Jerry Jones(Cowboys)And up until this year.Donald Sterling(LA Clippers) -- Why anyone would want to own a sports team and not spend any money or make them competitive for so long is beyond me.
3/11/2012 12:40:23 AM
^ not a business major. The clippers have been one of the most profitable teams in the nba for years. How is making $20 million a year beyond you?The obvious answer is Michael Jordan. The guy has a legitimate shot of losing nearly his entire net worth in this bobcats disaster if he hasn't already.
3/11/2012 12:43:22 AM
Christ. How did I forget Jordan.
3/11/2012 1:01:38 AM
Lol jerry jones took a team he bought for like 100mil and turned it into one of the most valuable sports franchises in te world
3/11/2012 1:04:26 AM
^And a dynasty.
3/11/2012 1:16:38 AM
I'm basically referring to the wins losses of their teams. Not the value or making money.I don't think there is any question that Jerry Jones is the reason that they haven't been more successful than they have been. The only time they were good was the 90s when Jimmy Johnson was running things.
3/11/2012 1:23:19 AM
Can't ignore he owned and oversaw one of the great dynasties in NFL history. (Fired Landry, hired Johnson, etc..)]
3/11/2012 1:25:18 AM
I agree, there was some success in the past, but he is basically responsible for the mediocrity over the past 15yrs or so.Bad drafts, bad trades, bad coaching hires, etc... are all his doing.I'm not just coming up with this out of thin air. It's been discussed over and over on sports talk shows.[Edited on March 11, 2012 at 1:29 AM. Reason : ,]
3/11/2012 1:28:42 AM
Snyder yes but I'm not sure I'm buying jerry Jones. They've drafted studs as of late. Demarcus ware and dez bryant. Unearthed miles Austin and tony romo out of nowhere. They've had some bad luck the last few years but they aren't perrenially bad like the skins or browns
3/11/2012 3:02:54 AM
"Dollar Bill" Wirtz (Blackhawks)His son Rocky is a great owner, though.
3/11/2012 5:12:04 AM
can't believe we're 6 posts in and no mention of frank mccourtfuck frank mccourt
3/11/2012 5:24:44 AM
George Shinn Is it too early to say Al Davis? If not, Al Davis. (After the 80s, at least)
3/11/2012 5:41:56 AM
Well to be fair. The Redskins were a disaster when Synder bought them. But yeah. He's really done nothing good in the 10+ years as owner.
3/11/2012 10:26:13 AM
The correct answer is Peter Angelos.
3/11/2012 10:35:25 AM
^ fucking this
3/11/2012 12:50:26 PM
surprised no one has mentioned that the colts as a franchise are getting run into the ground
3/11/2012 2:00:16 PM
the wilpons
3/11/2012 2:07:01 PM
^^ how, exactly?by being one of the most successful franchises of the last 15 years?
3/11/2012 3:31:42 PM
Lol those poor colts fans. Random comment of the year
3/11/2012 3:35:10 PM
Alex Spanos?
3/11/2012 3:37:42 PM
Can an AD count as an owner? If so, Uncle Jed
3/11/2012 3:39:47 PM
who owns NCSU?
3/11/2012 3:40:41 PM
as the resident Colts fan, i disagree.I mean, don't get me wrong, I hate to see Manning, Clark, and probably even Reggie and Tamme leave... but it was time to blow it up and rebuild. That era couldn't last forever, and it was only a matter of time before it ultimately declined beyond the point of repair. It may have happened a year too early, but ultimately history will decide that.
3/11/2012 3:43:53 PM
That team had a ton of holes the past two years that Peyton completely masked. They're 100% correct to dump the Peyton bomb on someone else and take the young bluck
3/11/2012 3:45:55 PM
Lee Fowler

Michael Jordan by way of Bob Johnsoneven Dick Vitale took time out of the ACC championship game to acknowledge how embarrassing the Bobcats are.
3/12/2012 10:32:22 AM
OP is a simple minded idiot. Why would someone start/buy a business, and not give a shit as long as it's making a ton of cash...It's a business.LOL @ Jerry Jones. Yeah, $100 M to $2 B. He really needs to win more. It's actually ridiculous how much he cares about winning with the kind of money that team is worth.

I hope this guy is kidding with Jones....he actually wants to win. Yes he needs to hire a GM and give him some power, but how many current owners have 3 SB rings?[Edited on March 12, 2012 at 1:42 PM. Reason : how many years have they had a losing record since he bought the Boys?]
3/12/2012 1:42:27 PM
ralph wilson of the buffalo billsi love that he has kept the franchise there, but damn if he hasnt been a thorn in my side for years now
3/12/2012 5:03:45 PM
Thread was over with the mention of Peter Angelos.
3/12/2012 5:17:02 PM
^^^It's been discussed on basically every major sports show before. The one reason they haven't been more competitive for the better part of the past decade and a half is because of Jerry Jones refusal to hire a GM who knows what he is doing. The only real success was during the early 90s when he was basically riding the coat tails of what was installed before he got there.I'm not just throwing that out there out of nowhere. Like I said, it's been discussed over and over.

Plus you can't pin David LaFleur on Jones because Troy Aikman was the one who campaigned for him to replace Jay Novacek. Now, I'm not sure who to blame for Cory Fleming on. That guy sucked even in Tecmo Super Bowl III he'd drop passes. He was really good in the arena league though.
3/12/2012 5:39:15 PM
Nobody is arguing really that Jones hasn't had some success. Sure he might have done a few things right starting out, but the only common factor in their mediocrity of almost the last 20yrs is Jerry Jones. What people are saying is that by being stubborn and trying to run the team by himself, he has severely limited the success of the team. Has he drafted some good players? Sure. Has he made some good FA signings. Yeah. However, he has fucked up more than not. The Cowboys haven't been a factor at all in forever and it all goes right back to Jones. http://espn.go.com/dallas/nfl/story/_/id/7418937/dallas-cowboys-owner-jerry-jones-consider-giving-gm-title

I don't know. It's pretty damn hard to beat Snyder. Also, who owns the Pirates??
3/12/2012 6:53:32 PM
Snyder is THE worst.
3/12/2012 6:55:00 PM
The Orioles are just bad. Basically always have been and they seem ok with that. The bad part about Snyder is, that he runs his team like a fucking fantasy football team.He tries SO HARD to be good, and he is still one of if not the worst.
