So Bruce Weber fired from Illinois. The last 9 years @ Illinois he has 1 Final Four, 1 Sweet Sixteen, 2 2nd Rounds, 2 1st Rounds, and an NIT quarterfinal. Yet they fired him? Where is the media saying Illinois should be happy with that success? Why do they feel they need better success?
3/14/2012 10:17:28 AM
^ I hope the same shit that happened to Nebraska happens to them. Not happy with 10-2 or 9-3?We'll fire you and never get to 9 wins again. BOOM.
3/14/2012 10:58:49 AM
nebraska has gone 9-4, 10-4, 10-4, 9-4 the last four seasons.

wtf does that have to do with the coaching carousel thread?NyM needs to tighten up over here. Shit like this should get you a several month ban from Sports Talk.

Apparently Leonard Hamilton is eyeing the Illinois job?R.I.P. ACC
3/21/2012 5:38:16 PM
oh you haven't heard? mark gottfried is here dude.[Edited on March 21, 2012 at 5:43 PM. Reason : florida state's not really an acc team anyway.]
3/21/2012 5:43:05 PM
^^ LOL. Shaka Smart turns down Illinois so they go for Hamilton? Sounds like the Missouri plan.Hamilton would be smart to bolt right now. He will never achieve more than he did with FSU this year and they are going to be much, much worse next year especially if Snaer decides to go pro. Plus at FSU, football is still king regardless.[Edited on March 21, 2012 at 5:46 PM. Reason : 456]
3/21/2012 5:46:06 PM
hamilton is trying to bolt but he's in his 60's, doubt illinois gives him serious consideration
3/21/2012 5:47:26 PM
^^ yeah, you misunderstand. hamilton wants the illinois job, not necessarily the other way around. and holy shit, he's 63? looks 40.
3/21/2012 5:48:59 PM
^ haha yeah i was thinking the same thing. No way I would have guessed him to be anywhere near that old.

Illinois must be a shitty program if the great Shaka Smart turned them down.

Frank Martin to South Carolina. Good hire for them, but a horrible decision for Martin IMO.
3/24/2012 2:49:37 PM
^agreed
3/24/2012 5:35:05 PM
No doubt it's difficult to win at South Carolina, but I think some of you are underestimating how shitty Manhattan, Kansas is.
3/24/2012 6:06:51 PM
Seth Greenburg (lol) is apparently SMU's top candidate
3/25/2012 9:21:17 PM
Martin moves to a better sports school in a good, stable, yet easy conference(after kentucky). How is it not a good move?
3/25/2012 9:37:38 PM
^so, is that a done deal?
3/25/2012 9:39:09 PM
link?
3/25/2012 9:40:14 PM
According to the sports talk radio shows down in SC, it was a done deal as of Friday. Maybe they jumped the gun some. I still think Martin could have waited for a better opportunity than SC. They don't give a shit about basketball in SC and will continue to get raped for their good players by the better programs in NC and all over the southeast.I do agree that it is a better situation than Manhatten and a better conference than the Big 12.
3/26/2012 8:06:25 AM
i was sure he would end up with the miami job a while back

I think it's a good move for Martin. besides Kentucky, Florida and Vanderbilt, the SEC is pretty even in terms of level of shittiness. he's proven himself to be a good coach, and I would think it would be easier to recruit to Columbia, SC over Manhattan, KSgranted I've never been to Kansas but I also see no reason to ever go there
3/27/2012 1:02:53 PM
Having been to Kansas, I can confirm that there is no reason to ever go there. SC sucks pretty hard though. Take recruits to myrtle beach I guess.
3/27/2012 1:05:59 PM
Having drove/rode thru Kansas i had to stop and have a drink half way thru. would have stopped sooner but there isn;t a got damn thing in Kansas. the whole state has three 3 trees in it.
3/27/2012 1:27:38 PM
troll away!

How has Bzdelik kept his job this long?
3/27/2012 1:59:16 PM
Having lived in both Kansas and SC, I must say that you guys don't know jack shit. Judging a place simple because you drove through it is like calling a girl a bitch because you walked past her and did not like the color of her hair. A place is what you make of it.
3/27/2012 2:03:13 PM
probably because his team doesn't rape people in hotels.
3/27/2012 2:03:22 PM
kansas looks like the whole state is stuck in the 50'sboringest, ugliest state I've ever driven through^^no its not, its like judging a girls beauty based on her outward appearance [Edited on March 27, 2012 at 2:07 PM. Reason : .]

Columbia is a shit hole. I don't know of its any better than Kansas State...but there's a reason basketball coaches haven't been able to recruit worth a shit there in a long time. You can't take them to basketball games because nobody goes. Your best bet is to get them to commit during a visit when the football team is playing.I've seen K-State play on TV and they've got a lot more "atmosphere" than USC does. Bottom line is that its not a "step-up" in program. At best...it's a lateral move. But if you hate your current AD and they're throwing $2 mil at you...then I guess you have to make the move.
