My team has developed a new tool to help our clients migrate the data from their current CRM system to one of ours easily and cost-free. We are ready to begin beta, but nobody can come up with a name that we all like.I'm always up for experiments, so I thought I would "crowd source" a name. If we pick your name, even for just the beta phase, I will send you a $50 Best Buy card.I can't really show any videos or pics of the product, because it's not released yet, but here is my best description of it.... I can add more if you have any questions you want answered. It's built sort of like a wizard, in that it walks you through the process of your data migration or data import. You help it find your source data, regardless of the type/location/etc..., then it walks you through some questions, and then you are presented with this really nice graphical display of your data, and visible "cards" that you can drag and drop your data around to make it go where you want it to go in our system. Once you have done that, our platform takes over and does all kinds of de-dupe, address standardization, etc.. The really revolutionary part is that drag and drop "mapping" interface. Lots of other programs have implemented something like this, but pretty poorly. Think iPad-y type app. It has been a design requirement from day 1 that you should be able to do it without anything other than a touch screen, and we have adhered to that.So anyway, some of the names we have tossed around are things like:"Visual Mapper""MigrateIt""MapIt""Data Migration Wizard"They all seem to knida suck. Toss out some suggestions, I will add them all to our internal list at work, and if we pick yours, ill PM you for the $50 gift card (it doesnt have to be Best Buy, it can be anywhere that does an e-gift card).

In this day and age you need a catchy name, NOT a name that is made up of words that are EAXCTLY what you are doing.

yeah if we're talking consumer grade just use whatever sounds good and isn't trademarked, but if its B2B those MBA types eat up shit that spells out what it does.

Keep them coming. The target audience for this is the person at their organization that is the actual CRM software user at their site. She isn't super technical, but knows how to use Excel to make basic spreadsheets and understands the concepts of CRM.I don't think the name needs to say what it does, but I don't think we are leaning either way. We just want a name that doesn't sound like a bunch of computer programmers came up with it. We actually already reached out to our marketing department, and we thought their ideas were worse than ours.

http://wordoid.com/The most important thing about naming software is getting a decent domain (though this might not apply if you are giving this thing away). Also important is not stepping on an existing trademark and if the domain is unregistered, the trademark probably is too.MapScaledMaplinessMappenslolOr you could always name your products the microsoft way, e.g. "Enterprise Visual Mapper Migration Studio Professional 2011." Also make sure you get a shitty logo to along with it:Oh, and one last thought. We tried naming something at work recently. Whatever you do, don't let it come down to a vote. Naming by committee will produce the worst dogshit imaginable. Seriously, people either wanted to name the product something bland and cliche like "Interface" or "Prism" (wtf, are you a child?) or they wanted to name it something unpronounceable or embarassing like "Pionus". Then when you come up with a good name, people will bitch about it constantly... saying that it doesn't reflect the product. Just imagine if these people had gotten their hands on "Google".[Edited on March 2, 2012 at 10:33 AM. Reason : r]

I thought about this for a while last night and by far my favorite was:SnapeaIt has all the connotations you described, without being a literal product name. Snap Peas make people thing of the 1-2-3 of a wizard, they're crisp, they taste good and are good for you, and its a very well known process to handle them. Plus you have the the homophone with "snappy" implying it will be fast and informal (both elements you are claiming as unique to your product).
