I just bought a 5ton army truck with a 24v electrical system. I have a trailer that I would like to pull with this truck and this one only. It has electric brakes. I will convert the lights to LED which will handle the 24v. The voltage on the brake circuit needs to be reduced from 24 to 12 somewhere between the truck and the trailer. I have a 12pin male plug to connect to the truck and a 7 pin female for the trailer to plug into. I found this on ebay and think it may work. http://www.ebay.com/itm/30A-DC-DC-24V-12V-Power-Supply-Converter-/300438998192?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item45f38f4cb0

That's exactly what you need. My buddy has an old Series 2 Land Rover that's FFR and he's mentioned using the same sort of thing.

check the outputs with a multimeter before you fry your trailer with it

I may have what you need. I'll check when I get home. I have no use for it.

The amps concern me hahah. I'll still look.

is the 30A rating a fixed output or is the output related to the input amperage? they have several different amperage converters on ebay.

the 30A rating is the maximum draw that its rated for. The actual power draw is determined by the load you are putting on it (the lights). 30A should be fine.btw what kind of truck did you get?

The highest amperage I can find associated with a brake controller is 20A so the 30 should be plenty. I bought an early 5ton M54 style truck, it was a cargo truck I think. Its a cab and chassis now. It has 11.00 20 wheels instead of the super singles on the M9XX later trucks. Multifuel engine whistling turbo, 5 speed manual and 2 speed transfer case, pretty normal stuff. I did get a PTO to run the hydraulics I am going to add for the winch, dump bed and a pair of tractor remotes on the back. I will need some mild caging for it, but not as much as the yellow truck on here http://www.capecodfd.com/Pages%20Special/Breakers_13.htm[Edited on February 21, 2012 at 10:40 PM. Reason : tr]
