I finally ended up getting HD cable and I'm noticing that about on 90% of channels there is a fair bit of underscan on the top of the image. My TV is set to "Screen Fit" which is Samsung's version of pixel-to-pixel. I can fix the underscan by setting my TV to 16:9 mode but I dont like losing parts of the picture. The only reason I care is I have a new plasma and want to make sure the phosphors are getting even wear. Anyone else have this problem with TWC? I notice that when I use the cable box's menu there is no underscan.....I'm just guessing its how TWC is broadcasting the content.

HDMI or DVI or Component? If you can, try a different one than you're using, they all support 1080p but seem to inherently show slightly different ratios/screen positioning

HDMI....I'll see if I can try a different connection

Turning off the 720p mode on the cable box eliminated about 75% of it.....still about 3-4 rows of pixels at the top that arent getting lit.May just see if I can get a non-shitty/newer box from TWC and see if that fixes it.

hah yea...i started with a slick samsung box last night, but the idiot install guy couldnt get it to work and blamed the box....so he replaced it with some archaic scientific atlanta thing...turns out that didn't work either because he forgot to take the trap off the line...so I ended up with the Scientific Atlanta

HDHomeRun PRIME + WMC = no more shitty cable boxes. The Prime can be found for ~200 bucks now, and a HTPC will run you ~300 bucks.

^that would be nice but I don't want to spend any more cash just as a heads up to any folks that are interested....I swapped for a Samsung box and it fixed the problem. Just told the lady at the store in Cary that I wanted a Samsung version and she said no problem.Fixes the underscan issue and the box is a hell of a lot faster navigating/changing channels/etc.
