Let's put that here and ponder....

yeah when i spun a rod in mine... this is what i should have and would have done... had i have been employedi still don't know why you would get rid of the black truck though?[Edited on January 13, 2012 at 11:54 AM. Reason : .]

the real question is "what the fuck for?"
1/13/2012 11:55:57 AM
new thought... new post... I would honestly do an explorer..... before you laugh.. hear me out, 1. SBFs are easier to tune for b00st2. it allready has the drivetrain it needs 3. independent suspension and since you wouldn't be off-roading it who wants SAS?4. every bit as many parts as the ls motor... half the rigging to make it fit.step 1, buy exploder, step 2 buy JY lincoln 4 valve motor, (not really necessary as 3 valves build well too)step 3 build bottom end, step 4 whipple charge. step 5 build tranny step 6 call DSS to get some custom shafts made step 7.... PROFIT![Edited on January 13, 2012 at 12:00 PM. Reason : .]

yeah my stroker xj on 31s with stock gearing and a 5 speed (so 3.07 axle ratios) would beat a 5.9 grand cherokee.
1/13/2012 12:01:42 PM
no. put that engine in here please:
1/13/2012 3:07:28 PM
Really, there are only maybe a dozen cars produced that shouldn't have been equipped with LSx engines under the hood to begin with. GM ought to just stop making shitty cars and become an LSx production operation for the rest of the auto industry.[Edited on January 13, 2012 at 3:56 PM. Reason : I didn't buy a Corvette...I bought the best stock production means of hauling around an LS6.]

truer words have never been spoken. also, they should tell CAFE to go fuck themselves
1/13/2012 3:51:22 PM
I'm thinking with the right wheel/tire combo, a 400+whp cherokee with some light weight reduction and all 4 wheels clawing would make for one HELLUVA 1/8th & stoplight racer!
1/13/2012 3:56:07 PM
ever seen videos of that CJ-7 with big power ripping off 4x4 launches at the strip and at stoplights?
1/13/2012 4:09:14 PM
^no, actually haha
1/13/2012 4:18:18 PM
also, Duke, good point in the other thread about the LS1
1/13/2012 4:38:10 PM
I like LSx engines in Corvettes and that's it. It belongs in that chassis. I feel like everybody sticks their nose up at the C5 and C6 chassis... like some kind of 240sx is better??? That's a damn Civic with RWD, and that may be a bit of a put-down to the 90s (EG/EK chassis) Civics. It's the only production car you can get with a Short Long Arm style fully independent double wishbone suspension.Sure the Corvette isn't small, but to call it a big car--compared to what, a Miata? People act like it's some kind of 6 series or XK8. The only thing that sucks about the Corvette is the interior, but the C6 is passable in that department.
1/13/2012 7:06:29 PM
Yeah, I mean, it depends on what your ultimate power goals are, and what the price differences between the different variants are nowadays. I haven't priced any of them in years, since I was thinking about doing an LSx RX7. If you're gonna get involved to the point where you're tossing everything but the bottom end, though, it probably makes more sense to start with an LS1.^ The 'Vette is a very, very capable chassis, in addition to having God's own engine. It is a huge sports car, though...particularly the C5 (the C6 is somewhat better). It's not very heavy, considering its size, but it is big, and it drives big until you are really wailing on it. Additionally, people rightfully hate on it because it's a giant hunk of shit in every regard except for looking cool and going ludicrous speed...and getting good fuel economy for what it is. It's fucking awesome at being driven at 9/10 or more, and it's good at idling down the highway at 80 mph with a slippery c/d. Everything electric/electronic on the car was surely sourced from Lucas, the control feel is nonexistent until you're hammering its tits on a racetrack, and even then, the shifter still belongs in a truck (thankfully, it doesn't need to be used all that much). The seats would be only borderline acceptable in a Yugo, and the rest of the interior looks like it came from the Cavalier/Cobalt parts bin, and it was rightfully derided there. It is impossible to drive anywhere except an interstate highway without scraping the nose.Go track or even autocross one (especially track--that's really where it's in its element), though (a Z06, or maybe a C6 Z51 or better), and you will be a believer, or there is something really wrong with you. Driving it on the street is mostly an exercise in patience with all of its shortcomings.[Edited on January 13, 2012 at 7:24 PM. Reason : ][Edited on January 13, 2012 at 7:25 PM. Reason : ]

I will post in this thread, mainly because I like the idea of the LSx motor hooked onto an AWD drivetrain.and I agree that calling the 240 a RWD civic is a huge put-down to the civicsNMSJ
1/13/2012 10:03:29 PM
guys,dont forget I've mentioned an LSx equipped civic before, t56, 9", you know...anywaydont be a H8R, back to sex-jays and v8 swaps

1/13/2012 10:31:40 PM
^ Oh ok, yeah, agree 10,000% with all of that; I looked into swapping an LSx into everything under the sun, and determined that the most bang for the buck was just to buy the fucking 'Vette.
1/13/2012 11:09:28 PM
...yeah, but that shit's for another thread dudes

well that suckedthere was a pass time/pinks episode filmed at Zmax that had a NC kid running a mid-90's 4x4 grand cherokee with a 408 magnum setup, iirc he was in the 10's (champaign/olive color wiht black wheels)
1/16/2012 3:47:35 PM
I would be interested in driving one of these lsx powered awd dragjeeps
1/16/2012 5:43:29 PM
^I'd be scurredI mostly posted that for the wagoneer which I think is pretty sexy. I was actually looking for an old-school full sized cherokee to post but came across that one. Also AMC POWER!!!my first car was an '88 xj. I'll never forget the "power" transmission toggle you could switch when we were high school street racing - it was a champhttp://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/need-help-finding-answers-jeep-cherokee-89-a-871224/[Edited on January 16, 2012 at 6:33 PM. I hate to say it but that roll over was hilarious.
1/16/2012 7:46:53 PM
I wouldn't mind finding an FJ40 to do an LS swap with, along with a fiberglass body conversion.

1/17/2012 12:31:51 AM
yes that jeep was about 12" or so too tall for my likingFWIW, my brainstorm is swirling around stock height, sway bars F/R, and 28-30" height fatties
1/17/2012 7:59:42 AM
EL Sex-J
i have a stock rear sway if you need it, with end links and everything.
1/17/2012 8:51:08 AM
^obviously you havent seen adam's back yard.
1/17/2012 8:56:32 AM
lol... ok yeah i forgot WTFab did xj racing for a bit. i just have 1 full 99 xj worth of stock suspension laying around.
1/17/2012 8:57:54 AM
haah yeahbefore he scrapped most of it we had 3 d30's, a d44, long-arm front, couple sets stock front, 4 doors and rear hatch.he's another xj, btw. that's what got me going
1/17/2012 9:00:34 AM
1/17/2012 9:08:18 AM
they're fun... i always thought it was funny that my xj weighed less then my buddie's 3000gt vr4
1/17/2012 9:10:25 AM
yeah, i had no idea of their capabilities when adam got his first green one in college.
1/17/2012 9:35:08 AM
i came from yjs which are shorter and heavier so when i got my xj i was like WOW these hill climbs are much easier now.
1/17/2012 9:37:02 AM
just watching some ECORS footage will get anyone's heart pumping, especially when the guys are bouncing off the rev limiter
1/17/2012 9:38:43 AM
i don't know why but to this day i still think of hitting rev limiters as the automotive version of domestic violence. I guess when you set up an engine to spin to 8000 rpm and you spin it to a 7000rpm rev limit i guess its fine. but all that loading & unloading on the crank seems like it would be prone to spun bearings.
1/17/2012 9:45:46 AM
with a reasonable amount of money (like $3-4 grand), how much power do you think you can get out of a 4.0?
1/17/2012 7:25:24 PM
300 hp is pretty easy with a stroker some head work a good cam and the right intake manifold (the 99+ intake flows way more than the older one) anything past that requires boost when i was looking into a turbo jeep (6-7 years ago) no one had made one worth 2 shits. i would not put any boost on one of the engines with the distributer ignition without revising the ignition system. Stock timing is WAY too advanced for boost (hell its setup for pump gas on a uber low compression engine and you can't just twist the cap back on it)I guess what i'm saying is spend your money on a good stroker build or an LS swap. If you build the stroker right, then later want to add boost, you shouldn't have a problem.
1/18/2012 7:43:24 AM
Let's keep it to LS's people! How not to swap a LS:http://www.norotors.com/index.php?topic=3426.0
1/18/2012 9:12:47 AM
Also dont forget that a 350 horse jeep 4.0 is a far cry from a 350 horse LSx as far as reliability/longevity is concerned. That and I couldnt bring myself to spend that kind of money on the 4.0 regardless
1/18/2012 9:38:36 AM
it's a weak block even tho it's an inline... it's really just not worth the time. Sorry i wasn't being pro 4.0. I like the motor but my stroker spun a rod bearing (with a 5500 rpm redline) and it was built by a damned good machine shop will extra special care taken.
1/18/2012 9:45:47 AM
...thought about this again driving home from work last nightalso, saw an ad from TCI on their new super-duper 6-speed auto kit (6l80e im guessing) that has everything needed! programmable with auto & manual modes (comes with shifter)that would be the tits. This thing is nothing but a bag of ideas
