And away we go.

One good thing about the Mets' offseason.

For page 1:

I hate that all the fans have to suffer for dumbass ownership.

Please sign David Wright to an extension, I can't handle losing anymore of my favorite players, which a year ago were in this order:

Wright
Reyes
Davis
Beltran
Pagan

Davis will hit 35 homers if he plays 145 -150 games.

Bay is gonna bust out with the shorter fences. I'm thinking a dozen, maybe fifteen home runes.

By comparison, my top 5 on the team now would have to be

Wright
Davis
Murphy
Santana
Bay

Murphy has been up and down since he joined the club, but could end up being pretty solid at 2B (assuming we don't sign a 1B forcing us to move Davis). Bay and Santana are the highest paid players on the team, and in my mind, the most under-achieving.

Adam Rubin on twitter:

Quote :
"I know he's going to the best contract, but the Mets were barely in touch with Reyes or his agent. Marlins called every day."

And Joel Sherman on twitter:

Quote :
"Fascinating is #Mets r talking with suitors seriously about Ike Davis. #Rangers, #Pirates need 1B. Tex in particular is known to like Ike"

Edit to add this most recent tweet from Rubin (disputing Sherman's claim about Ike)
Quote :
"Terry Collins said he has not been in Mets war room for 90 minutes, but he said there's been zero dialogue on trading Ike Davis."

I'll post this in the new thread as well (already posted in '11 thread)

Mets sign Reliever Frank Francisco to 2 year, $12 million deal

Mets trade Angel Pagan to SF for OF Andres Torres and Reliever Ramon Ramirez

Mets sign Reliever Jon Rauch to 1 year, $3.5 million deal

Rauch seems like a okay 1yr gamble at $3.5 M. Francisco has been hit and miss, I wouldn't want him for two years at $12M, too much risk.

Trading your best OF and top of the order guy for a player who had one good season and was injured trash last year and middle reliever seems like a bad deal for NY.

Oh well whatever. Your rotation sucks dick just like it did at this time last year. Good luck fixing that this offseason.

He was a great player until he got to NY. He's only in my top 5 because Reyes, Beltran, and Pagan are all gone. Who else do we have to hope for to have a good season?

Pagan was pretty average last year. .262, .322 OBP. He was much better his first season with the Mets (2010). Pagan was rumored to have a pretty bad attitude and wasn't that well liked by the front office.

^^ My memory sucks. I thought he had his good season last year. Oh well he and Torres are basically the same player so I guess the Mets got a reliever in the deal.

I guess it wasn't clear enough that I was saying he's only up there because everyone else left/was traded and he's the only one with any hope of having a decent season.

After the other 4 on the list who else do the Mets have who hold any potential?

Because Ernie is such a big fan of lists, I am going to name my top 5 favorite Met players of all time:

1. Dennis Cook
2. Mo Vaughan
3. Tom Glavine
4. Turk Wendell
5. Kris Benson

Just missing the cut were Shawn Green and Lasting Milledge.

His career stats aren't very impressive to this point. Is that Roger's kid? If so, he certainly didn't inherit the speed.

Oh, and we cut Fernando Martinez. WTF.

Can't tell if serious...

The most notable was when Ken Griffey Jr snatched a ball out of the air that his dad was about to catch...that was a very famous moment in MLB history. They didn't only play at the same time, they were teammates.

I've heard of him, just never knew the age differences.

Regardless, Martinez was untouchable in trade talks when so many teams wanted him, and now we just simply put him on waivers to make room for this guy. I really hate our management.

David Wright is hurt, but he says he'll be ok.

Quote :
"Two days after receiving an ultrasound-guided cortisone shot at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan, New York Mets third baseman David Wright returned to camp and pledged to be ready for Opening Day on April 5.

Wright revealed Wednesday that he had a muscle tear toward the left side of his abdomen -- technically, the rectus abdominis muscle. He believed he had a rib cage strain before an MRI exam revealed the true diagnosis."

The first 12 games of the season are against the NL East, and 15 of the first 19 overall. We'll see pretty quickly just how bad the team really is.

50th anniversary of the very first Mets season...we only won 40 games in 1962 and I wonder if this season will be any better.
