Just commenting on my selection here, because I do think it's probably the worst song of 2011 that has garnered any attention whatsoever. For this thread, I'm excluding local acts, such at Lilac Shadows (who just use some sort of echo-box and could basically be saying anything in front of a bunch of tired chord progressions and mediocre guitar playing, whilst using a bunch of effects pedals and shit that nobody's impressed by. It's laughable how many bands this one lead singer dude has been through in probably less than a year's time).

Alex Winston appears to be so fraudulently obsessed with 'the scene' that she basically seems to have been inspired by the shithole apartment she moved into somewhere in Brooklyn after her parents footed the bill behind "her inspiration." That video has the reading level of a 14 year-old. It's as if the entire song wasn't annoying enough with its prissy, catty (no reference to the cat in the video), girly self-backup vocals. No, we have to sit here and watch some lady she pulled off the streets of New York City do meaningless things under the false pretenses of "being in a famous music video," while this Alex Winston bitch tries to sing her way out of a trip back to Michigan and failure.

By the way, I've never been to Michigan, but that entire place screams failure. A failed car industry, a failed job market, Michael Moore, Eminem, the fucking Insane Clown Posse? After laying such a big, annoying egg of a song, it's honestly no surprise that Alex Winston is from there...

I don't know who Alex Winston is, so I'm going to assume she's some sort of cut-rate Lana Del Rey.

And that's saying something.

So are you hating on the song because it's bad or hating on the song because you don't like the artist?

Wow, Scrumples, that song is AWFUL.

It's every bit as devoid of artistic merit as Rebecca Black's Friday, both lyrically and stylistically, yet takes itself completely serious. Meaning, this isn't some 8th grader at a 3rd rate production studio, this is actually someone who considers themselves a "professional."

Ugh.

That gets my vote.

Honestly it sounds like an unreleased throw-away filler b-side to Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors."

I actually like "locomotive". It takes a while to get past her voice though. Definitely a guilty pleasure.

^^ i was expecting the same when clicking this thread.

even still i'm surprised he restrained his hate to just one song....that must have been hard. i guess he gets to let that hate out in pretty much every other music thread in Entertainment though, so perhaps it's no huge accomplishment.

Worst Albums of 2011 nomination:

the Mountain Goats - Al...fuck, I don't know what it's called. Something about squares, I feel like. It's terrible, though. More terrible songs from a terrible, terrible band.

All Eternals Deck. Which is very fitting, considering that dude's songs run together lyrically like someone with an intense combination of ADHD and Tourettes wrote them. I really think the only people that listen to this band do so just to be contrarian assholes. The dude can't play guitar (just bangs on it the whole time and for every song), he can't write songs (as mentioned above), nor can he sing (I would only assume the band name is making fun of how he sings, but how does that even matter?). I think those are pretty important requisites for the business, but what the hell do I know...

Also, decided to keep my negative ranting to one thread. You're welcome.

10. Mountain Goats - All Eternals Deck
9. My Morning Jacket - Circuital
8. Radiohead - King of Limbs
7. Megafaun - Megafaun (really just don't like that band, nor the people in it. Sorry.)

5. Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues
4. Childish Gambino - CAMP
3. Drake - Take Care
2. James Blake - James Blake

i wish i could name the worst albums of 2011, but i don't go out of my way to listen to albums that i don't like. and i'm not a music journalist, so i'm not paid to listen to much i don't like. and surely there are worse albums that garnered more attention. check billboard.

I wish I were in some fucking garage psych band (how original) from Raleigh that plays Slim's and King's every other weekend, but we can't always get what we want.

Pretty sure you don't know if you'll like something until you listen to it. And of course there's more albums that have gotten attention from Billboard or whatever, but I already know I don't like Kelly Clarkson et al.

saw them once and thought it was okay. got strong mudhoney vibes. it didn't sound very garagey or psychedelic to me at all so i didn't bother with it too much.

I know when I YouTube a couple of their songs and they sound like garbage. If they sound cool, then I listen to the album.

Not bashing, I'm saying that I don't torture myself for the sake of being cutting edge or open-minded. I know within 5-10 minutes of hearing a band if I want to continue listening. Different strokes for different folks. Some people thought the Bon Iver album was the best of the year. I think Bon Iver is boring.

Music is not that different from movies, clothes, art, or even women. You know what you like within a few minutes of encountering it. No one gives a shit what you think, and I know that no one gives a shit what I think. My opinion is the only one that matters.

You really don't have to sit there with this patronizing paragraph on how my opinions won't influence people. It's pretty eyerollable if you think I'm doing this to try to sway somebody off of something they like to listen to...

I have to disagree. For example, I had initially written off a number of songs from the Girls album Father, Son, Holy Ghost; however, I now consider that album one of my favorites of the year.

After numerous listens, those same songs that I had dismissed have become songs that I endear.

Also, many people have reversed their opinions of Wu Lyf's Go Tell Fire to the Mountain after listening to it for the first time.

This is a thread I created. It's fun to imagine how easily trollable some of you folks are, but...alas, I'm not imagining...

Apparently the phallus goo in anybody's ears that is the voice of John Darnielle is what started this trollfest, though.
