Moving to chicago in a week or so. Looking for some recommendations for men's winter jackets that are waterproof and pretty warm. I'd like to keep it around $200 if possible. Whatcha got?

check out first ascent. you won't be able to keep it under $200 but they make really awesome, quality stuff.

are we talking outdoorsy, like something you'd buy at REI, or are we talking more like a pea coat or something you'd wear to work or out on the town?I'd recommend something with a good windproof shell. The wind really whips between the buildings if you're walking around downtown.

Down jackets are going to be the warmest, but most of them have the Michelin man look. Cheaper ones are not going to be waterproof, either, and they are not going to have high quality down in them.

Windstopperâ„¢ owns.I love my Mountain Hardwear fleece with Windstopperâ„¢. It's 7 years old, and I still feel no wind between my belt and my neck.

if you're going to subject yourself to a winter in the chi and living in the city, get yourself a couple decent scarves and a nice fleece town coat. brooks brothers makes a good one that has a weather-proof component to it (i think it's just a really tight weave to the fleece) that makes it water and wind resistant. the longer the better. you'll appreciate the shit out of it when only your shins are cold and the rest of you is nice and toasty and the heat is kept bottled in by the length of the coat at the bottom and the scarf on top.also, if your SN is a reference to eddie murphy in I Spy, then *high five*.[Edited on December 2, 2011 at 10:05 AM.
