I have a friend whos considering moving into the area. They have a medium sized dog and are looking for a place with a yard fairly close to campus (15 minutes). What areas would you consider in the $800 price range? Where have you stayed.

$800 won't do much.

If you find a place with a yard at $800 they should be wary. Especially if they are moving into the area they may find a great place in a bad area.Garner is a good idea though

800 isn't going to get you a detached house that's on-the-wolfline near campus (not likely anyway) but, as mentioned, Garner is an option. Also consider some of the older parts of Cary aren't golf-course-yuppieville--that could be an option.

^ I'd be very surprised if you could find a house for rent in Cary for $800. Not unless you want to be sharing that house with a bunch of other people.

We had a pretty nice house in Cary with a fenced in yard for $1250/mo and I felt like we got a great deal. I am sure you could find a place that isn't as nice for a couple hundred cheaper but $800 is going to be tough. I would look into a townhouse that has a small yard area that you could put a temporary fence around if that was my budget.

we rented a house off of Lineberry for $1050/month. 3 bedrooms, nice backyard, but I'm sure the price has gone up a little bit since then (we moved out in 2008)

Are there no houses in that price range in your neighborhood?
