F355s and 360 Modenas are getting downright affordable.Unfortunately, the costs of ownership would afford you a nice Porsche.
11/7/2011 12:12:37 AM
You could just pickle it and save on those costs some. Then re-sell in 40 years and buy an island
11/7/2011 12:49:39 AM
niether of those mass produced fiats will be worth anything any time soon... look at the dino
11/7/2011 7:05:38 AM
eh? A lot more 430s were sold than 360s or F355s. They will hold their value long term just fine. Comparison to the Dino is just plain ridiculous. Also many people regard the F355 as the last Ferrari with "traditional" styling (I'm included in this camp). On the flip side the F355 was also the last Ferrari built where maintenance is an absolute bitch (compared to more modern Ferraris).
11/7/2011 10:56:01 AM
sorry, a 355 just screams "I couldn't afford a newer Ferrari"
11/7/2011 10:59:42 AM
I hear that's what people say about FCs as well.
11/7/2011 12:36:31 PM
BAHAHAH yeah... i'm actually trolling, i really do like the 355s and would love a testarossa even though its a cheapo now. I don't however like the 360 i don't know why but i think it's ugly and mundane I would much rather have a 996 turbo then a 360

Considering I was 19 when I bought my first FC and 21 when I bought my turbo, those people were completely right.

Thx for the lol

surprised no one here has posted up pictures yet... specially considering 'styling' was mentioned

I think what he is trying to say is... that for 355 money there are better handling, faster accelerating , better balanced cars. Being that that is the case people who buy 355s just want to own a Ferrari for the Ferrari owner experience (half of which is or is related to being able to say "i own a Ferrari")I'm at the point where in the mid 90s i'd make fun of someone who wanted a convertible Ferrari because you ruined a performance machine. Now, i think if i were to buy one i'd buy a convertible because it just increases that drama that is the Ferrari owning experience.[Edited on November 8, 2011 at 2:37 PM. Reason : cars cars]

I'm not on fire for a 355 for anything aside from the prancing horse cool factor, but a 360 Modena is a whole other story. A challenge stradale even more so, but that's a whole new tier or two just in the cost of the initial buy-in. I could buy a Modena, but like a similarly priced L-29 jet, I can't afford to own one.
11/8/2011 3:27:44 PM
What are the main expenses for a 360 Modena? Is it just regular services eating you alive (brakes, valve job or something) or do serious and expensive failures commonly occur?
11/8/2011 3:30:01 PM
Everything I've read says that routine servicing and maintenance is needed frequently and is astronomically expensive. And yeah, I'm sure if you did break an engine, it would require a NASA-budget repair bill.
11/8/2011 3:35:09 PM
engine swap... i bet a coyote 5.0 would fit in there just fine.

build quality, reliability should also be in there
11/8/2011 4:02:24 PM
I really like the F355. I'd own one. The 360 Modenas, not so much... For ~$100k I'd hold out for an Audi R8 or a Porsche 997 GT3. Your preferences may vary.[Edited on November 8, 2011 at 6:37 PM. Reason : .]

a 360 at this point is a major headache. unless everything has been replaced, its going to cost you a lot of money. a majority of them are sitting around not being driven. interior/exterior/engine components are going to crap. wow, looking on ebay, 70, 80, 90K for a 360 someone i know sold his like 2-3 years ago for $119K. he took a hit from when he bought it.. but still. maybe i should show him these crackhead prices. haha. damn.

11/8/2011 8:12:29 PM
^^^^ yeah, it wasn't long ago that $150k was pretty much the standard going rate on them. Now I've even seen some down well into the $60k range! I think $70k or so is probably a good figure, though.but yeah, most of them are hardly driven, which isn't good. You can hardly find one with more than 20-30k miles on it, and a whole lot of them are 10 years old with 5,000 miles. Of course, if you DO drive it, it will cost you a fucking fortune in servicing and general maintenance, even if nothing major ever goes wrong.[Edited on November 8, 2011 at 10:28 PM. Reason : if I could have a 360 Modena for $60k and expect Porsche servicing costs, I'd be hard pressed not to]
11/8/2011 10:27:00 PM
you know how many track days you could do with the difference in cost from the chevy to the italian stallion, even if completely ignoring maintenance costs all together? fuck all this pipe dreamin and get some seat time.
11/8/2011 11:03:09 PM
Well, duh, I'm not going to buy one anytime soon. I wouldn't buy one if it put me in a position where I flat-out couldn't afford to track it about however much I wanted, anyway.Hell, the Z06 would probably be every bit as fast or maybe even faster, but that's beside the point. I just made the thread to point out how much it sucks that a 360 can now be purchased by "normal" people, but you still need SHITLOADS of money to really legitimately own one.Haven't you noticed by now that I pretty much at least consider buying every cool car I see? Miata, 360 Modena, C5 Z06, C6 Z06, E46 M3, E92 M3, pretty much every generation and variant of 911 (except any GT2 or 997 Turbo or GT3, I flat out can't afford those), E30, Lotus Seven clone, you name it.
11/8/2011 11:33:35 PM
just always seems to turn into online circle jerkery and then devolving into the same 3 or 4 cars being better than everything. shit gets stale, b. I wanna see some threads like "HOLY FUCK LOOK AT THIS MOVE I PULLED, ALMOST DIED -- gopro vid inside" All this bench racing, saying how "oh yeah I'd totally buy this car if they market it to like 0.00002% of people like me," and how this econobox turd looks like that one, etc.. shit makes my dick soft/rantcarry on

that's pretty much how internet car forums go for the most part.I can make another Taylor Lautner thread

I guess that's why I quit all of them.. That and I don't do anything besides daily drive my car. They're great for looking up DIY tutorials!

11/9/2011 2:59:23 PM
the funny thing is, you can argue the value of a car but it is done based on supply and demand. basically something makes your car worth 50k whether its an awesome car with crappy reliabilty and expensive maintenance that will get you laid when it is running or just a regular looking sedan that's faster, more reliable but won't get you laid. (355 vs cts-v)
11/9/2011 3:24:01 PM
How exactly supply and demand have anything to do with it? Anyone can buy them, just like anyone can buy Rolex or Timex. One is a Ferrari and other one GM. It will simply always be more expensive because it is more prestigious marque.
11/9/2011 7:39:43 PM
Wtf do you think makes it a "prestigious marque" people want them and there aren't enough for everyone to haveI know that's all you really care about mr "I can't even consider an m3 a 3series because it hurts it's "prestigious marque"".Here is a challenge find a ford gt (in avg condition) for less then 140k (it's original sticker price). If you do I'll be damned impressed and shit that's just a ford with a mustang engine in the back how prestigious is that? [Edited on November 9, 2011 at 8:49 PM. Reason : Bumped it up to the actual sticker price cause it's still hard.]
11/9/2011 8:34:29 PM
lol, damn.
11/9/2011 8:43:14 PM
yeah, just a few years ago, it was $150k for a Ford GT, Gallardo, or 360 Modena. That was pretty much a standard going rate, from what I saw.You can easily get a 360 for half that now, but I don't think the Ford GTs have dropped any at all!
11/9/2011 9:10:12 PM
11/9/2011 11:38:39 PM
that is a pretty terrible understanding (or lack thereof) of the principle of supply and demand determining price.
11/9/2011 11:40:49 PM
One thing is for sure; Carrera GT is still in the $300k-$350k range...
11/10/2011 6:40:09 AM

11/10/2011 7:10:25 AM
I have no problem admitting I'd prefer a Ford GT over a F355 or 360!
11/10/2011 8:58:46 AM
11/10/2011 10:10:01 AM
^^ i'd rather have one than anything up till the 458 and even that would be iffy because that Ferrari will depreciate... the ford hasn't. (and the ford can be pulled or turboed into the stratosphere) But back to the ferrari paradox. I really wouldn't mind a RedHead but that's cause i think a flat 12 would be awesome and they're cheap enough to where i wouldn't mind re-working a few things to make it better. like low comp pistons and a twin turbo setup. and a new brake setup that uses off the shelf brembo/stoptech components.
11/10/2011 10:25:24 AM
the only way i'd buy a ferrari is if money was not an objecttoo many other cars I would rather have for the same money
