Warning - Words. Ill start off with, I am a complete noob when it comes to cars. Right now my speedometer is stuck on 120 and the gas gauge stops working about once a week. This only seems to happen when it gets cold outside. I did some research and it seems like this is a pretty common problem. With many people saying the replacing the instrument cluster is the solution. I am a pretty handy guy but have never done any major car work. Do you guys feel that this is something I could figure out for myself or should I suck it up and take it the dealer. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Should be pretty easy. All the ones I've ever removed just took a while to find all the screws and clips that hold the pieces on the dash that surround the cluster. Once those came off it is probably just a handful of screws holding the instrument cluster in and three or four plugs on the back. Unplug the old one, plug in the new one, and put it all back together. If you could install a car stereo you can probably do this. Shouldn't take more than 20-30 minutes even doing it your first time.[Edited on November 3, 2011 at 10:33 AM. Reason : l]

^ Thanks for the response. I think Im going to give it a shot. DO you have any recommendations on a good cheap website to buy the instrument cluster from?

if you don't mind buying used, a junkyard may be your best bet. car-part.com will let you search for that part in junkyards across the country.you could also check a u-pull-it place like LKQ but they may not have any wrecked 05 mustangs right now[Edited on November 4, 2011 at 10:53 AM.
