I dont have much knowledge of wireless devices, but we need a new wireless router in our house. What we have now is an older Linksys router that I'm sure is out of date by now.Any suggestions for a new router at a reasonable price? Say $50 or so?

does "out of date" mean it doesn't do what you need?

If you have a Linksys WRT54G then yes it's out of date because it won't handle gigabit or wireless N but do you really need either of those? Unless you have an extremely fast internet connection or lots of users the wireless on it will not be the limiting factor for internet. Unless you have issues with it or a reason to upgrade you probably should stick with what works.

If it's as ^ said, upgrade the firmware on it and keep rockin'. Also, make sure you're not using WEP to handle your encryption, and you'll be OK.

i agree with everyone above me...there is arguably little performance advantages of wireless-N over wireless-G for the average consumer, especially if you just have "standard" high-speed interneti'd care more about encryption (as noted above)...WEP is better than nothing, but WPA2 is what you should be using if you're able

I mean it works, but its around 4-5 yrs old. It does seem fast enough, however when more than one person in the house is on it we all get bumped off very frequently. I am/was assuming this is a router problem, however I am in unfamiliar waters here so I could really have no clue.

If you have trouble when there's several people on, there's several things it could be. For one, it's always best if you're on a channel that doesn't overlap with your neighbors - preferably 1, 6, or, 11. You need those 5 channels of spacing to not overlap at all.
