Old threads were old. Has anyone upgraded to VMware player 4? I noticed the clipboard copy/paste feature does not work in Unity. You can copy/paste from the host to the guest but not vice versa. It's extremely frustrating. I just switched from Microsoft VM to VMware player (converted the XP mode VM) because Microsoft VM doesn't support GPU acceleration on a second monitor in the integrated mode (so you have to run it in a VM window).

VMware tools is installed and unity works fine but copy and paste does not work from the guest to the host. I've confirmed this on two different computers. My other desktop running an older version of VMware player (3 i think) works fine. http://communities.vmware.com/thread/332352Same issue. Guess I just need to wait on an update.

this issue is in every vmware product right now. i even experience it in esx4 and 5

Well that sucks. Guess I shouldn't upgrade on my other computer (3.1.5).

This works in Hyper-V

I've had copy/paste and drag/drop flake out from time to time. Usually a VM power down reboot will fix it.

^^Doesn't that require Windows server? ^This is just a bug.
10/29/2011 11:27:14 PM
Hyper-V Server is a free standalone hypervisor that doesn't require a full Windows Server license. as opposed to the Hyper-V role that you can turn on in Windows Server 2008

Gotcha. Downgraded to VMware player 3.1.5 until 4.0 is fixed. Had to re-convert the VM. Grr.

Grr clipboard still isn't fixed in VMWare.

I couldn't find any other remotely relevant threads. I'm going for my VCP5 this Friday. Has anybody else done that? If so, how was the test?
2/14/2012 12:38:18 PM
Took VCP5 today, scored 456/500. Highly recommend this dump:http://www.examcollection.com/vmware/VMware.Braindump.VCP-510.v2012-02-07.by.vSphereClone.396q.vce.file.html

I didn't do that well but I also passed it today Also, yeah I noticed that the braindumps on that site were word for word on the test.[Edited on February 17, 2012 at 6:14 PM. Reason : eh]
2/17/2012 6:14:22 PM
so you study a braindump for 2 weeks to get a cert and then look like a dumbfuck in your interview?
2/17/2012 7:23:44 PM
certs are of questionable value
2/17/2012 8:12:55 PM
More like 12 hours, obtain cert and enroll company in VSPP.Already have the job and many years of experience, but thanks for your concerns.

^^^I administer vSphere daily and I actually found that a good portion of the test wasn't required knowledge for daily tasks. But unfortunately there are some jobs/recruiters that look specifically for this kind of stuff so I'd rather have all bases covered.Btw, I think you have to study a whole lot more than braindumps. That was only a small portion of my gameplan.[Edited on February 18, 2012 at 9:50 PM. Reason : eh]

Question. I'm trying to remote (using remote desktop) to my desktop which runs a VM with a VPN on it. For some reason remote desktop doesn't let me see what's in the VM. Logmein and other VNC solutions work but I'd really like to use remote desktop. Is this a video driver issue? I'm running VMware player 4.0.2 with Windows 7 both as the host and VM. Basically the VM window just shows up black in windowed or full screen mode.-and no I can't directly remote desktop into the VM because of the VPN otherwise I'd be doing that.Hmm think I got it working. Had to mess around with some settings. This is like inception. OS within an OS within an OS.[Edited on April 3, 2012 at 10:14 AM. Reason : s]

I haven't specifically used VMware Player, but in my experience, trying to control a VM while RDP'd to the host usually doesn't end well. I've never seen this lack of video that you're experiencing but usually VMs over RDP are sluggish and very difficult to control. If you can find another method, I'd recommend doing so.

Yeah I think I got it working. Typically I'd just remote into the VM directly but the Cisco VPN I'm using within the VM cuts out anything other than the network I'm accessing and I don't know of a work around. Basically I'm at work with my laptop and I'm running something on our software that requires a constant connection to the VPN so I RDP to the VM at home because when I move my laptop around this building I'll lose the connection.
