So long story short. We use air cards for almost all our work because company X doesn't allow us access to the internet on their network because we don't have company X laptops. We've been dealing with this for quite a while but just moved to another building and are getting constant drop outs because the reception is poor. We've been using Spring 4G hot spots with mostly good results at another site but now we can't get 4G at our new desks only 3G which isn't an option. We just got Verizon 4G LTE cards which DO get 4G at our desks but constantly drop in and out. We've updated all firmware and talked to support but can't fix the issue. It appears there is no reliable wireless solution in Charlotte. AT&T is another option but 4G isn't in Charlotte yet and 3G is decent but reception is bad at our desks. We are considering almost anything. http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/24/amped-wireless-gives-your-wifi-1-5-mile-range-never-lose-signal/Even crazy stuff like that. Anyone have any ideas? Better devices to use?

Just hook yourself into the grid.[Edited on October 26, 2011 at 6:29 PM. Reason : cheap and easy ethernet over powerline

Company X would probably go batshit if they knew what was going on in the other thread.

What about the verizon 4G hotspots? You can move them around without moving the device youre using, to minimize receptions issues.

Reception is fine. They just drop out all the time. The connection is really inconsistent.

yeah verizon 4g connections are very flaky, and their software is a piece of shit. When you do have connection its quite quick though.

Yeah we haven't found a solution yet. Although the best cards we've tested are the Sprint 4G hot spots. They're way better than the Verizon ones, although we don't get reception at our desks so we have to put them near a window and connect via wifi which works. They only cut out maybe once a day.

So a co-worker got a hold of a new AT&T 4G LTE hotspot in Atlanta and has had no drop-outs and a consistent 20-30mbps down and 8-10 mbps up. Seeing as it's not deployed in Charlotte yet we aren't going to get them but damn that's nice. Hopefully Charlotte will deploy it next quarter.
