I think Tobacco Road has half priced apps or something.

But, yeah, the drink specials are illegal. And for good reason.

lol shit really? Well that explains why I've never heard of a happy hour around here

In that case, what bars have worthwhile specials on what days?

The idea is specials during certain hours lends to binge drinking thus more intoxicated drivers.

People binge drink in a very short period of time when there are happy hour specials.

But with an all-day special, people slow their binging over that period of time.

People still binge drink (by the definition of binge drinking) ... they just take their sweet time.

Obviously the binge drinking would stop when the drinks go back to full price.

this. they have a half price food menu at tobacco road from 4-6 on weekdays. So pair that with drink specials and you have even better than happy hour.

One time I went to a happy hour (50c beers) during spring break with like 5 minutes left. I gave the bartender a 20 and asked him to just not take them out of the fridge all at once. He hesitated until I told him otherwise the 3 of us would have to chug them all before they got warm. We ended up staying for a few hours and getting food, plus we gave him a $20 tip so win-win.

And yet almost every other state's citizens can handle this just fine

Just another one of those stupid laws leftover from the "old south" perhaps. How long has the OP lived in NC and not realized this?

lol to be honest I've never really thought about it before. I had a coworker asking me today about happy hours in the area which made me start thinking about it.

Half-off appetizers count as a happy hour in my book

I think the ban on happy hours is actually a good law....whenever I am traveling I get pissed off that bars only have specials from 4-6.

Tobacco Road has a Tues. half price appetizer, half price drink special during traditional 'happy hour' hours.
Sushi Love, by Duke, has half price sushi and margaritas on Thurs. nights. Fed has $1 off NC beers on Sunday nights.

Pinhook for a time had $3 NC draft beers, but I'm not sure if that still goes on Mon./Tues. still.

ruckus has $3 entire bar on Thursdays and Sundays

but man on man every time I go up to visit my family in New York, I take full advantage of happy hour time. BOGO has never been so awesome as when you are double fisting white russians

Mez used to have a killer happy hour taco bar / beer special from 4-6. I think it was like $1 tacos and something something beer or margaritas.

Don't know if they still do anymore.

You are aware, of course, that happy hour can be whatever time the bar/restaurant wants it to be. 3-5, 4-6, 6-8, 6-9 or my personal favorite 12-8.

4-6 Happy hours are the worst. Why even bother? The average 9-5er might get 30 minutes to enjoy it.

Amedeo's on Western Blvd has good beer specials on Thursdays and Live Music from 8-10pm. I think all pints are $2.50 and PBR is $2. Pitchers are discounted too. For students, a large one topping pizza is 9 bucks on Thursdays before the band starts around 7:30. Yes, I work there. Amedeo is my G-Pop.

^^^^^ The entire point of a 4-6 happy hour is to enjoy a beer before you drive home from work. 30 minutes is plenty for that. If happy hour lasted longer, there wouldn't be an incentive to stop working and leave the office at a reasonable hour.
