He sure does look skeptical in that pic.
10/17/2011 5:49:18 PM
whats wrong with it?
10/17/2011 6:41:01 PM
Nothing. My girlfriend can't handle the dust from his baths because of her asthma. He has relaxed a lot since I got him; he'll jump up on the couch and sit on my leg when I'm eating or watching TV (mostly when I'm eating). Less skeptical pics:Also included in ownership is his Facebook page.

OMG WANT.
10/18/2011 2:23:59 PM
I'll take it. one down... just a few more to go...
10/18/2011 5:07:14 PM
Addendum: I will not give Charlie to those who plan to make him into a coat/purse/set of mittens/chinchilla chili/etc.
10/18/2011 5:44:38 PM
damn i was about to ask if they taste good...times are rough
10/18/2011 6:51:16 PM
Why's your girlfriend hanging out with him while he's taking his baths
10/18/2011 7:22:17 PM
He tracks the dust everywhere. It's the only downside to owning him, besides him trying to eat all of my books.
10/18/2011 11:22:43 PM
CUTE
10/19/2011 12:58:09 PM
yeah they're really awesome pets... ours plays with our cats (i know weird right?) keep in mind if you have a female (which seems to be what pet stores sell these days) they're illegal to breed without a permit.
10/19/2011 2:33:09 PM
see my loafers? former gophers......i'm sure my roommates dogs wouldn't like this little guy or I'd consider
10/19/2011 2:41:25 PM
^^Who's in charge of the chinchilla breeding program? Why would it be illegal?
10/19/2011 5:13:19 PM
Probably some sort of USDA regulation if I had to guess.
10/19/2011 5:40:10 PM
mmmmm I see a nice fall clutch
10/20/2011 1:30:16 PM
Bump.
10/25/2011 11:57:23 AM
can i call him charles instead
10/25/2011 4:09:15 PM
My wife wants this little guy and I don't mind, but I have no idea how much it costs to take care of one of these things. Got a ballpark estimate on monthly costs for food and supplies? Vet care?[Edited on October 25, 2011 at 5:56 PM. Reason : .]
10/25/2011 5:56:23 PM
Vet care? Pff, your guess is as good as mine. His food is about $15/bag, and I guess I get a new one every 3-4 weeks. I get him a bag of papaya pieces for treats, those are cheap. The wood shavings for the bottom of the cage are $8-9, but it depends on how often you clean his cage for how much you'll spend there. He's pretty inexpensive to maintain, $20-30/month total I think. And I'll give you everything I've got now, so it's like one month free!
10/25/2011 7:08:20 PM
Okay, I'll give you a tentative "I'll take him". I'll talk to her about it again today and let you know for sure tonight.
10/26/2011 8:12:45 AM
if it does not work out for fender i'll take the little fellow. i've had a chinchilla before and really miss him as does my wife. holla!
10/26/2011 9:07:45 AM
Just got home and talked to her again about it, and she's looked around a bit and changed her mind. She did some more research on them today and decided that she wasn't really ready for the time commitment of another animal, so if you want to take him, he's all yours.
10/26/2011 9:44:17 PM
aww he's so cute
10/27/2011 8:56:01 AM
Do they play well with 25lb dogs?
10/27/2011 9:08:38 AM
How dumb are the dogs? Charlie is pretty quick on his feet.I just got back from a trip out of state, so I'm available for chinchilla delivery whenever.
10/31/2011 12:43:12 PM
Do they need a lot of attention? I'd feel bad leaving him home all day alone. Does he like run around and roam around the house when you're home? Is he minorly trained to go back to the cage to pee or does he prefer the carpet? This made me lol at work
11/1/2011 9:11:55 AM
He's in his cage for the vast majority of the time, but he sleeps during the day. He has a giant plastic wheel which he's never used, so I let him roam around the house for exercise when I'm home. He only pees in his cage--in a little bowl, in fact--but he'll poop wherever he wants. They're the little hard turds, like hamsters have, so very easy to clean up.As far as the Facebook page goes, I didn't start that. That honor goes to omgyouresexy.

I might have someone who is interested, let me get back to you if it's still available?
11/15/2011 1:02:59 PM
Sure. Also, I have trained him to come when "called" by the crinkling sound of his bag of treats. It saves you a lot of trouble if he's hiding under the couch.
11/16/2011 7:11:38 AM
anything that eats its wooden home makes me a bit skeptical. Good luck with this, though! hope it ends up in a good home!
11/16/2011 7:45:24 AM
surprised he isn't gone yetmaybe this means he should belong to me! (jk I cannot be responsible for another life right now)

If he's still available, I'll take him immediately. I could even pick him up today.
