I need to buy a new dryer. I could have sworn delivery and installation used to be included at a lot of places but that does not seem to be the case any more. Are there any stores that still do this?

I feel like it only happens if certain places are running "free delivery" deals...which I also feel like that happens quite frequently (with the big places like Lowes/Home Depot/etc). My step-dad ran a Sears appliance store when I was growing up and even he charged for delivery back then. Unless you're the owner doing it by yourself (which he did quite often), you've got to pay a decent wage to people (competent people) delivering and installing appliances.Do you not have a friend with a truck?[Edited on October 7, 2011 at 2:39 PM. Sears did this a few years ago, but now I think you have to spend $X before it's free delivery/installation/haul-away.[Edited on October 7, 2011 at 2:40 PM. Reason : you can also negotiate with the sales guy]

Like jbrick83 said, places often run free delivery deals.

Hmm, many places charge extra for delivery and installation, but it's not that much.I think it's between $50 to $100 for D&I. Instead of asking for D&I for free, try to talk him down $50 to $100 on the price of the fridge. Using math principals, it's like getting D&I free. Say you go up to the salesman and tell him you really want THIS refrigerator. Salesman's thinking "Woohoo! commission"You say "Hey, I'll buy this refrigerator right here and right now if you can figure out how to save me $50 off this price of $700. I'll even buy the delivery and installation package! He's thinking"Hmm... 20% newspaper coupons? Employee Discount? Scratch and Dent discount?"Okay! Deal!BAM! Free Delivery and Installation.

Sears wanted $60 for delivery and $130 to "install" it which I could do myself except it would be annoying carrying it to the second floor.

^^ HHGregg let's you haggle on appliances. We ended up getting a washer and dryer there for like $600 total by the time we were done

2nd floor dryer??Seriously...you can rent a van/truck from Uhaul for an hour, buy a friend a couple beers, and do this yourself.

Yes, I can do it myself, but I would prefer not to.

Cheapest place to get a free delivery on a Dryer is Lowes, you only have to get a unit 297 or higher. Buy anything cheaper and expect $65 for the delivery. Also, expect everywhere ever to charge you anywhere from $20 - $50 for "installation", which means buying the appropriate cord (assuming electric) and new pieces of vent to go from the dryer to the wall - then they'll hook that stuff up when they bring it out. Expect this to be even higher if you want it side vented. The good news is that most of the time, the drivers can do the install without needing a separate appointment. If you intend to use your old dryer cord and vent pieces, do not expect anyone to hook it up for you - this would be a liability nightmare for them if your shit caught on fire. Lmk if you have other questions, until this April I worked in some form of appliance retail for 7 years.[Edited on October 7, 2011 at 3:13 PM. Reason : .]
