If you could live anywhere in the world, would you move or stay? Do you have a favorite city? Do you already live there?

My sig other and I are in the position where we're looking at options since we can work remotely. We love Los Angeles (bc of work and friends) and the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. But we're still just thinking about options right now.

Do you love where you live? Have you lived abroad? Why do you live where you currently live, and would you want to move?

I'd like to live on a quiet coastal area, beach house, cooler climate, close-knit group of friends, within 15 minutes of most shopping and within 45 minutes of a hospital.

I've no requirements for a specific destination as long as I could have some sort of internet access. I'm a hermit at heart.

I would live in Edinburgh, Scotland. Love the city and actually feel comfortable there, as opposed to many other cities I love.

There's a lot of cities I love to visit but couldn't live there--Prague is one that comes to mind.

I would live in western Montana or Idaho. I love the country side out there.

Though high-speed internet is probably hard to come by, but I wouldn't care.

I'd like something like my grand father's summer home and boat slip in Edgartown. I always enjoyed going up there. But I worry about Tsunamis.

I'd also like a cottage to stay while we ski. Maybe Breckenridge. But I worry about the Yellowstone super volcano.

Rancho Santa Fe, CA was nice, but I was only there for a weekend. Perfect weather, lots of equestrian activities. But no one is allowed to have mailboxes. You have to drive to the post office to get you mail. That's annoying. Plus I worry about earthquakes.

abroad? so many places...probably scandinavia if we're talking about working/raising a family

In the US, I'd have a really tough time leaving Charleston.

But if I'd have to, I like Denver, San Diego, and Seattle. I'd still be tempted by the big cities of Chicago and Boston...but too cold I believe.

Non continental...Kauai was amazing.

World?? That's tough because I've been to so few places. I have good friends that live in Santorini and had a great time visiting, but it's a ghost town for 4/5 months a year. I loved Amsterdam (no ), Barcelona, and Paris as big cities. I'd love to chill in Paris for a couple years. But southern Spain was also amazing.

Too many choices, but I'd be happy in any of those (as well as staying where I'm at right now).

I strongly considered moving to Washington, DC about 5-7 years ago. For all its flaws, still a really cool city. Sometimes I think I should have done so then, while I was young and didn't have any attachments. But I don't think I would want to settle down/try to raise a family there.

I also love Savannah, GA, but confess to not knowing much about the city outside of the historic/Victorian districts.

That's a tough question for me. Probably somewhere cooler as I can't stand the NC summers. But most ideal places further north on the east coast are too costly and highly populated.

If I could handle living on an island maybe Hawaii (Maui in particular).

For me, living near family trumps all other considerations, so I'll stick to the triangle. I can visit all the other awesome places in the world easily.

Yeah I wouldn't want to live too far from my parents, who unfortunately live in Charlotte. Otherwise I'd probably be living on St. Thomas right now.

I love Chicago and Denver but being so far from the ocean is a dealbreaker for me.

I think it's interesting to hear both. Preferred destination, money not an issue. And then ideal destination with $$$ in mind.

Outside of Anchorage, Alaska. Far enough away that I can have a ton of land and feel like I am all alone but close enough that driving to the city to get groceries and whatnot isn't a huge pain. If I could get a job nearly as good as the one I have now in Alaska I would move there in a heartbeat, there is something so peaceful about that place I can't imagine it wouldn't lower my stress level.

Somewhere with a decent growing season, open land to keep horses and livestock, and outdoorsy stuff nearby. Colorado and rural western NC are top of my list, followed by Montana.

Somewhere where I can do community and/or women's nursing is also a plus.

Not really looking to leave the Bay Area, but NYC and Seattle would be at the top of the list if I were looking to relocate for work related reasons. They are pretty much polar opposites in terms of pacing and lifestyle, but the parts that draw me to them are basically what I get here living here (art, progressive thinking, great food, culture, music, natural beauty, urban life, etc). Chicago is cool too, but I hate the weather and not being close to the ocean or mountains.

I really loved living in SoCal when I was there, but I grew out of it after a while. San Diego is a great place to party for a few years in your early twenties, and I definitely recommend it to anyone who needs to just chill out for a while and figure out who they are.

YES, except for the harsh winters. i'd have to have a trial run before i settled in. i LOVE snow but i don't know how i'd handle 3+ feet all of the time & still having to go to work.

i'd say somewhere overseas, I like tropical pacific islands and anywhere in Europe with a decent culture and a love for beer, like Belgium, Germany, England, Ireland... those would top my list. Italy too, wine's ok Maybe Switzerland because it shares so much with Colorado in terms of culture. (Skiing, Beer, Mountains).

Yeah I can definitely trade a slightly shorter growing season for more land and area to ride (horse and bike), and run and hike. I like the idea of permanently training at 10,000 feet like I did for a week in Colorado this past summer. And, those places I mentioned seemed to have adequate microbrew availability.

Outdoors+ beer+ something affordable? Sounds great!
