I heard rumors that you can go to the state fair a few days before the official opening, and just eat (no rides open). Please tell me this is true.

This is indeed true. My mom and I do it every year when she drops off her baked goods for competition. Wednesday is the best time to go since you'll have a lot of the vendors up and running to feed the fair crew and people like my mom.

Yes, true.

it would actually be great to get food without the vendors being pressured to serve as many people as fast as possible, might actually get a decent portion or have the vendor ensure quality.in addition to not have to wait in lines.[Edited on September 26, 2011 at 11:44 AM. Reason : f]

i hope they have the krispy kreme burgers this year.
9/26/2011 11:47:49 AM
btw some dude at work told me that those burgers were created...or more like..thoroughly enjoyed by Luther Vandross, much like "Arnold Palmers" so they are actually called a "Luther Vandross"can anyone confirm this? Needless to say, hes dead now.[Edited on September 26, 2011 at 11:50 AM. Reason : j]

What what what?! When do these magical food only days start?? The food is the only reason I go to the fair - I'm ready to cut out the rides/games middle men clogging my access to the food!
9/26/2011 12:37:42 PM
Is it all day Wednesday? I just saw they have a "Lunch Special" LOL...but alas, I would have to go for dinner. Gotta beat last years gorging...3 ears of corn, 1 funnel cake, 1 polish sausage, plate ribbon fries, regular fries, deep fried oreos, NCSU Icecream, and an elephant ear. I think I can do better.
9/26/2011 12:54:41 PM
So do you still have to pay to get in on this food only day?
9/26/2011 12:56:31 PM
don't think so.
9/26/2011 1:04:19 PM
You don't have to pay and I know that it runs into the evening on Wednesday. It's basically up to the individual vendors when they want to open and shut. If you go in the early evening for dinner you should be okay. Just keep in mind not every vendor is open, but most of the major ones are.
9/26/2011 1:31:57 PM
i might take advantage of that over actually going to the fair. i want some butter dipped grilled corn... mmmm so goood.
9/26/2011 1:41:20 PM
So what's the best day to go for a food day? The 12th?

Oh my god. This is pretty much the only reason to go the fair anyway. Is it only on Wednesday?
10/7/2011 12:58:43 AM
