Does anyone know wherre I could get a small sandblasting job done on the cheap in Raleigh? I've acquired an old Steelcraft Zeppelin that I'm going to mount for display but wanted to clean the surface rust off the tin before doing so. The item is about 26" in length.

you should also consider installing some LED lighting in it.

DO NOT sandblast. that thing is worth a couple hundred bucks and you will ruin the value of it.

Sandblasting that tin probably would ruin it. Maybe soda blast it, or leave it alone.

leave it alone. #1 rule of cool old shit is to leave it be. has pawn stars tought us nothing?

The one that I have isn't the one in the photo. Its almost completely covered in rust. I know I'll need to have it done with a softer media (crushed walnuts or something similar). Anybody have any experience with local places that do this type of work?

still dont fuck with it. seriously have an expert look at it

If the rust covers the surface, its done. dont even mess with it

if you do decided to have it blasted check out Topcoat (http://topcoatinc.net/)

if it is really that far gone then your safest bet is steel wool and elbow grease. that shit is really thin and anything blasting it hard enough to remove rust will likely eat away what decent material there is left.

Heres a picture of the item I picked up. As you can tell there is quite a bit of rust but it isn't completely rusted out. Steel wool isn't a bad idea, I'm going to see how that works on the tin.[Edited on September 7, 2011 at 11:07 PM. Reason : ]
