buying your own rope is a good optionif thats not possible I recommend finding a playground with a "fire pole" and climbing that. Its not the same as a rope but is pretty similar, especially if you are trying to do a strict upper body only climb.I use the playground on collegeview ave (off marcom street) near campus pretty often

Are you trying to practice technique, or are you looking for a workout? If you want a workout, there are several good alternative workouts. If you're looking for technique, you're kinda screwed. I can't think of any rope installations around Raleigh.

Didn't they used to have ropes hanging from one of the gyms in Carmichael. I swear I saw them back when I was there which has been a while (early 2000s). Either way get a rope, climb a tree, profit. Just make sure Jesse and Sharpton are not hanging around or else you'll get considered.[Edited on September 6, 2011 at 12:11 PM. Reason : df]

^ Yeah that is where I thought I saw a rope before. Why would anyone freak out about using it?

I don't know what their deal was. They got super pissed if you got anywhere near that trampoline too. Even if you showed them that you know hot to do a backflip they still made you leave.

There are some ropes hanging near Wake Tech's main campus on 401. They are in the woods and visible from 401. There are always some pipes you can crawl through and walls to climb. I think it is part of an ROTC training course; at least that's what it appears to be.
