Anyone had surgery to fix it? specifically the one mentioned below...

Laparoscopic hernia repair is what im getting.

How long was the recovery? hurt much afterwards?y

started hurting a lot when I ran. Got some pretty hardcore spasming down there in the groin area. Had a sore lump develop. Went to doc to get it checked, got a c-scan. I have one in my groin on the right side.

My gf is a nursing assistant and noticed it while I was hitting it from the back. Pokes out a bit. So she made me go to the doctor.

I had a hernia surgery, left side of the groin area between thigh and pelvis. If I recall, it took about a month to heal before I was out and about like normal, but keep in mind this was 15 years ago that I had the procedure done. I have a faint 3" scar remaining and a very tiny "knot" from the disolving stitches. Being that I was 9 years old at the time, I must say that it didn't hurt afterwards. More of just a sore feeling. I remember when I came out of surgery, there was a 26 year old woman crying her eyes out about 4 beds down who supposedly had the same surgery, so I guess YMMV.

When I run really hard (like when I was in cross-country) or do an extended swimming session, I'll definitely feel a knot in my muscle and it begins to feel sore. The doctors I've seen since say it's scar tissue from the surgery and that it's normal. Otherwise, I'm tough as an ox!!!!1 I was born with one but it hadn't bothered me until I had joined a swim team and my abilities were being held back from the injury.

that sounds like the other option i had for surgery. the doc said it could scar up and hurt in the future....mine is apparently the new way to do it...

3 weeks recovery vs 6 weeks

My Mom has had about 8 hernias (not sure what kind) resulting from C-sections for me and my brother. These were a different kind, and they hurt a lot before and after, so yeah.

I had two when I was a kid. like age 4 and 5 or so. I'm actually worried I'm more likely to get one again. Sometimes I get pain where my scars are but haven't had another since. It has to do with a weak abdominal/pelvic "wall" (not sure the medical term) on the inside. My dad has also had one recently and the recovery time for him wasn't that bad. maybe a week or two (granted he wasn't doing cart wheels or anything)

One of my buddies had to get that surgery done. He was out of work for about a week.

my dad has a had a few, bout 20 years ago he had a more traditional surgery and was laid out for a week.

Come last year got the minimally invasive was up and running around after about 3 days even though he shouldn't have been

its laparoscopic

it will be like a sore papercut you will be fine.

I had 2 hernias in highschool, they hurt but they cut all the way through muscle to fix it.

I had gal bladder removed via laparoscopic, was fine the next day.

you might even be able to get a laparoscopic hernia repair that doesn't involve entry into the abdominal cavity itself...totally extraperitoneal (TEP) repair. end up with a small skin incision under your belly button and a couple more even smaller ones lower down. return to work/play is a lot faster, there's less risk of injuring bowel, and you don't have a long scar over the groin. this is a good video explaining the procedure, risks and benefits. go see the guys at Rex surgical and they will get you fixed up

it won't get any smaller/less painful on its own. and its always at risk for incarceration which could necessitate a big operation and bowel resection

I had an inguinal hernia last year. Basically looked like a golf ball in my nut sack. Got it fixed and couldn't really move at all the 1st two days without slouching over. About a week or so later I was fully mobile, but couldn't work out for a month.

I worked out anyways.

All-in-all, it's a fairly easy procedure.

Doesn't look too bad. The dermabond is always a good choice, no steri strips to fall off or anything. Your scars are just slightly oozy underneath that so they look thicker than the actual cut. Should get better in a week or two

This 54 year old geezer that i play hockey with, he had hernia surgery to repair two. Dude was back on the ice in under a month.

But he's a bad ass. He's better than most 20 year old are at hockey.

They werent kidding. I woke up at 330am dying...I couldnt even get out of bed before I took some pain meds.
