What are your recommendations?

Probably going to check out Sam's Club in the next day or two to buy in bulk. Need a quick healthy snack for those work hours between breakfast/lunch and lunch/dinner

I usually go with Chobani Vanilla with honey and almond butter ~ 22g protein per serving

Just tried Trader Joe's full fat Greek Yogurt and it was pretty good for non-flavored. I can't find full fat anywhere else. It only has 9g protein per serving though.

I looked at the Greek yogurts in the grocery store a while back. All of them had way too much sugar in my opinion.

But it's supposed to be good for you.

[Edited on August 25, 2011 at 6:02 PM. Reason : It would be nice if they'd sell it sour and we could add splenda.]

They do sell the plain unsugared yogurt; that's what I buy. Chobani plain, and I add splenda and pineapple.

chobani tastes like ass to me. i really really love oikos though. the stoneyfield version, NOT dannon. the strawberry one doesn't taste very sweet imo. chris, who doesn't like yogurt but loves sour things, said it's pretty sour. after oikos i like fage. i've tried chobani 3 times now & i would not buy it again.

Now I need to find out where to get it in the big containers instead of the individual sizes.

I started Googling. Apparently, ice cream has to be at least 10 percent milk fat to be called ice cream in the United States.

Krema was 1% away. I wanna buy it and freeze it now to see what it tastes like.

Fage FTW!! It's available in whole, 2%, and skim. No added sugar. Great with some berries and honey.

It's also a healthy way to thicken a creamy soup

^yes!!!! I <3 fage! I add in a little honey.

Or:
1 pint plain greek yogurt ( i go with low fat)
1 hothouse cucumber, peeled
1 tablespoon plus 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice (1 lemon)
1 tablespoon good olive oil
1 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic
1 1/2 teaspoons minced fresh dill
Pinch freshly ground black pepper

Grate the cucumber, mix it all, enjoy some quick tzatziki with pita

Dang, Kroger has the yogurt market on lockdown.

They've got that carb control stuff, too, that is basically unmatched in the diabetes scene. (Smath74 brought this info. to TWW originally.)

Note that Fage Total isn't whole milk, its more like half-and-half or light cream. Dat 13% milkfat. Crazy delicious, but something like 250 calories per container.

I prefer the 2% ones to the 0% ones, but grocery stores like to carry almost all fat free stuff - Chobani 2% Pineapple, Fage 2% Stawberry and Blueberry are great.

If you want to find the Total Full Fat, try Whole Foods.

Once you'll try it, you'll never want to mix anything else with it. Pineapple has enough sourness to it that it masks out any bitter remnants in the yogurt, so all you end up tasting is something similar to regular yogurt but thicker.

If I could figure out how to make a key lime flavor, I would.

I buy any plain Greek yogurt with at least 23g of protein per serving and less carbs. Whatever is cheapest but store brands tend to not taste very good except TJ's.

stop buying yogurt with fruit in it and you won't have sugar problems. What do you expect, a cup of yogurt with a dozen blueberries in it isn't going to have a dozen blueberries worth of sugar?

just ate oikos for the first time

taste wise it was really good, but the texture was too creamy for me

(one of the reasons I like greek yogurt is because it's thicker)

I am a fat free plain chobani or fat free plain voskos girl. I love greek yogurt. I used to sweeten it with splenda, cocoa powder and raspberries, but now I just eat it plain. Yum! It is my mid-afternoon snack at work almost every day.

That's my problem with most yogurts in the supermarket, especially Dannon, Yoplait, and the like. They might as well call them desserts. What I like to do is buy a big container of this:

and put it on top of fresh fruit. If I'm feeling decadent I'll drizzle some honey or maple syrup on top.

The texture's going to be funky unless you throw it in an ice cream maker and churn it while it's freezing. Otherwise you'll get ice crystal madness.

Just read all the posts... man, all the misinformation and misunderstandings are

Anyway, I came here to post this:

http://www.thelightthatsright.com/index.html#get-coupon ($1 off $3 worth yogurt)

*****************************************************************************

So the new thing is Icelandic strained yogurt: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skyr

Two US-made brands started by newly immigrated young Icelanders, using traditional methods:

http://siggisdairy.com <--- link for coupon in upper right corner
http://smariorganics.com <--- pop-up for BOGO coupon when you click on "Our Yogurt"

You can find them at Whole Foods, Fresh Market, and similar stores.

Anybody tried them? I really want to try it.

*****************************************************************************

In other news, the Turkish founder of Chobani, who came to the US in 1994 to study English, is a billionaire now. His story is pretty cool:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamdi_Ulukaya

This decision is what made him a billionaire:

Quote :
"In the spring of 2005, Ulukaya noticed a piece of junk mail advertising a fully equipped yogurt factory for sale in South Edmeston, New York, 65 miles west of his feta cheese factory.[17] The 84-year-old factory had been closed by Kraft Foods.[17][18] Although he initially threw the flier away,[18] Ulukaya toured the plant the following day and decided to buy it, against the advice of his attorney and business advisor.[16] Ulukaya financed the purchase within five months with a loan from the Small Business Administration plus local business-incentive grants.[13][16][19] He initially named his new company Agro Farma, and hired a handful of the former Kraft employees.[15][19] As a first task they painted and repaired the neglected factory."

NEVER THROW AWAY YOUR JUNK MAIL
